Introduction
Endangered species are those considered to be at risk of extinction, meaning that there are so few left of their kind that they could disappear from the planet altogether. Also usually have a small or declining population size or a vet limited range, meaning factors such as habitat loss, hunting, diseases or climate change cause them to disappear completely within out life times.
Relict Leopard Frog
The relict leopard frog was believe to be extinct until three populations were discovered during the early 1990s. While the rare frog has not been found in Utah since 1950, it is at home in freshwater springs in Nevada and Arizona
Copperbelly Water Snake
The copperbelly water snake lives in lowland swamps or the warm quiet waters. The population of copperbelly water snake that live in southern Michigan, northeastern, and northwestern Ohio has been listed as threatened.
Colorado Pikeminnow
The Colorado pikeminnow, formaerly the Colorado squawfish, is the largest American ninnow, grow up to 6 feet long and weighing up to 80 pounds. The fish occurs in the warm, swift waters of the big rivers of the Colorado Basin.
The Problem
Animals and plants are face a large number threats with many of them being a direct result of human activity. Some of the most common threats include: Habitat loss and habitat fragmentation, Hunting and poaching, Invasive species, climate change, disease, Collection/ Pet trade and pollution.
Help the Endangered Species
As well supporting conservation organisations there are some simple steps that everybody can take to help and protect the natural world and the species. Like recycle, use less energy, choose sustainable products, make your voice heard, clean up your act, get involved and spread the word.
