Y5s - The Kindness Quilt
“Kindness, like a quilt, is stitched together in love.” This will be the focus in December for our Young 5’s classroom. Being kind increases a positive outlook, students are more willing to learn, and are even more creative when kindness surrounds them. As part of kindness month, we have created a kindness quilt, where the students have shared how they show kindness. Teaching kindness will be a series of lessons this month through our social-emotional program, as our students learn just how important it is to show kindness. One of our students wrote, “I am a kind friend.”, that is our focus- the way we bring a positive experience and make our classroom a better place to learn.
Santa's Secret Shop is Coming
Your child is invited to attend our upcoming Santa's Secret Shop. It will be held on Monday, December 12th through Thursday, December 15th.
The Santa's Secret Shop will enable your child to purchase their own special holiday gifts for family and friends. There will be an affordable selection of great items for everyone, such as popular jewelry, trendy gifts, and licensed sports and gift items.
We are very excited about the program as a learning experience as well as a service to the students and parents. Adult volunteers play a vital role in the success of the Santa's Secret Shop. PARENT VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED TO HELP WITH SET UP, DECORATING, AND OPERATION OF THE SHOP. We realize that the holiday season is a busy time for everyone, but we would appreciate your support. To volunteer please use the Sign-Up Genius linked below.

Requesting a Change in Learning Mode
Now through December 6, families can request a change in the learning mode for their student(s) for the second semester of the 2022-2023 school year. Students who are currently enrolled in-person can switch to virtual, and students who are enrolled in virtual can switch to in-person. If you do not wish to switch your child’s learning mode, no action is necessary.
Submitting the form linked below does not guarantee a request will be granted. Requests will be reviewed by building and district leadership and the parent/guardian will be notified. If approved, the change will be effective for the second semester (January 3, 2022 - June 9, 2023). Once a request has been approved, it will be for the duration of the second semester. Please carefully consider this semester-long commitment before submitting this application, as requests to change throughout the second semester will not be granted.
If you are interested in changing your child’s learning mode for the second semester, please fill out the application linked below.
You will be notified if your request is approved.
WINTER MUSIC CONCERT
The 4th, 5th and 6th-grade students of Mark Twain Elementary will be having a vocal music winter program on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 7:00 pm in the Fraser High School Auditorium (Fraser Performing Arts Center).
On the evening of the program, students should be dressed in their best holiday attire, as this is a very special occasion. The fancier, the better! Students should arrive and assemble in the FHS choir room between 6:30- 6:45pm. It is not necessary to arrive earlier that 6:30pm as the doors to the auditorium and choir room do not open until that time.
Lunch Aides Needed!
Lunch aides are needed every M-F. These are paid positions and applicants must be capable of going outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should contact Mr. Tonn at (586)439-6900 and complete an application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
READY OR NOT- THE COLD WEATHER IS HERE!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter. Students without boots will be required to stay on the blacktop on snowy days.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
