Geothermal energy was said to be used over 10,000 years ago by the Paleo Indians. They used it for cooking, bathing, and cleaning. The first geothermal power plant was developed by the scientist Gorge Culprit. It caused some problems in the environment because it's location was in a rural area. The first geothermal power plant in the US opened in 1865. It was very successful at the start and then they had a technical glitch so they shut it down. Now geothermal energy is a success in every location and is used all over the world.
