Attendance
Research on school attendance shows:
- Your child’s regular attendance may be the greatest factor influencing his/her academic success.
- Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who do not.
Here is how you can support your child’s attendance:
- Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Ensure your students go to school every day unless they are truly sick.
- Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
- Talk to teachers and social workers for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
A “truant” is a child subject to compulsory school attendance who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for a school day or portion thereof.
Chronic or habitual truant – A “chronic or habitual truant” is a child who is subject to compulsory school attendance and who is absent without valid cause from such attendance for 5% percent or more of the previous 180 regular attendance days. Students who are identified as chronic or habitual truants will be reported to the appropriate authority at the Intermediate Service Center.

Hart students picking up siblings at Churchill
It is important that Hart students are respectful and not disruptive when picking up siblings at Churchill School. Please see below for some reminders about dismissal at Churchill:
If you are picking up a sibling at Churchill School please adhere to the dismissal rules:
- You may wait in the designated area (Center sidewalk) and not on the playground
- Please wait quietly and use appropriate language
- If addressed by a staff member, please listen and follow their direction
- If you are not picking up a sibling, please help create a safer experience by removing yourself from this busy time.
Veteran's Day 2022
James Hart and Panther TV are looking forward to their yearly tradition of honoring local veterans. If your student has a special person in their life who is a veteran, please submit the following information by November 4th:
- A picture
- Their full name
- Which branch they served in
- Who they are related to and how (ie. Uncle of Mrs. Cieplucha).
All pictures and information must be emailed to Mrs. Cieplucha at cherylyn.cieplucha@hsd153.org. Submissions are due by Friday, November 4th.
The District is also celebrating our Veteran's this year. If you have a family member interested in attending, please click the link or see below.
