FAQs
There is so much information, and so much change. This is the place where we will share any changes to pandemic protocol. The newest info will be placed at the top. Changes will be noted by date. Look at the BSD COVID Page for districtwide info.
LUNCH is moving back indoors. (Updated January 3)
Students will be seated at assigned tables in the cafeteria 3 feet apart. 3rd and 5th grade will have the option of sitting by choice in the hallway 6 feet apart. Thank you to all families who have gotten their children vaccinated against COVID. That has been one significant factor in our decision to move lunches indoors.
Will there be instruction offered to my child during quarantine? (Updated for January 2022)
Quarantine instruction will be offered by licensed BSD substitutes not associated with EHSL school. Access will be via Seesaw.
How often does the air get purified at school?
Our air filtration system cleans the air at least five times per hour, meaning that every 12 minutes or less, 100% of the air in each space is filtered or brought in from outdoors. Beginning January 2022, the air filtration system in the cafeteria will have clean air at least 8 times per hour. That, along with increased vaccination for students, will be the two primary mitigating factors to prevent the spread of COVID at school during lunch.
What if my child is sick, but not with COVID?
If you notice that your child isn't feeling well at home, please follow district guidance.
If your child is feeling unwell at school, they will be sent to the isolation room, which is a room designated for all symptoms that may be contagious. Students needing medication or are bleeding will be sent to the health room. Students needing a bandaid will be taken care of in class.
Can my child go home with a friend on the bus?
No. During the pandemic, for contact tracing purposes, only students assigned to a bus will be allowed to ride that bus.
How do I know when to keep my child home?
Please follow district guidance.
- Fever >100.4 - Must be fever-free for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medicine AND after a COVID-19 test is negative OR 10 days if not tested.
- Cough (any new onset) or difficulty breathing - Must be symptom-free for 24 hours AND after a COVID-19 test is negative OR 10 days if not tested. An alternative diagnosis for the cough or difficulty breathing made by a physician and communicated with a physician note is also accepted.
- Diarrhea or Vomiting - Symptom-free for 48 hours OR with orders from doctor to school nurse.
What is the school's procedure once a COVID case is identified?
Once a family member alerts us of a positive COVID case, our school nurse leads the contact tracing procedure. We find out if anyone was within 3 feet in the classroom, 6 feet outside and at lunch, for more than 15 minutes cumulative over the course of a day. Anyone who meets those criteria would receive a phone call home.
Right now, the best prevention is to wear a mask, maintain physical space and sanitize hands frequently.
How is attendance counted during quarantine?
Students in quarantine or isolation will not be counted as absent from school. Students absent for other reasons will be counted as absent.
How will we know who is quarantined?
You will be contacted if your child has been exposed to COVID. If there is a case of COVID in the school, the entire school will receive an email notification.
Do you provide PPE?
We provide disposable masks in child and adult sizes, and hand sanitizer. We will be offering opportunities to hand sanitizer/ wash hands in between activities within the classroom (moving from reading to math, etc.), as well as the usual opportunities to wash hands/sanitize before eating.
Where do my children go before school?
- Students arriving at 7:45am will need to remain outside the classroom door until the teacher opens the door at 7:57am. If you are dropping off your child or are walking, please come as close to 8:00am as possible. For now, we will take roll at 8:05am instead of 8:00am each morning to accommodate traffic.
If you arrive after 8:05am, or if you see that the classroom door is closed, please take your child to the main office for a late slip. We need to ensure that all students are accounted for.
How do I pick up my children after school?
Please let your child's teacher know how your child will be going home via this form or by contacting your child's teacher directly.
Option 1: Walking home with or without parents: we will dismiss walkers from the classroom doors at 2:35pm daily. If you drive to pick up, feel free to park in a spot, walk to the classroom, and pick up at 2:35pm.
Option 2: Bus: If you qualify for a bus, you will have received an email from BSD transportation informing you of the bus route, bus stop, and time. We will dismiss bus riders over the intercom after 2:35pm. Kindergarten and 1st graders will have a staff chaperone walking them to the busses each day.
Option 3: Car pick up: Fill out this card and place it on your windshield. We will deliver your child to you.
Is there a dress code?
Dress to work hard and play hard in Oregon weather.
- Recess will use the field and the play structure as much as possible to maximize open spaces.
How does breakfast work?
- All breakfast and lunch is free to all students. Students will still need to enter their 6 digit ID number. Their ID can be found in ParentVue.
-The cafeteria will be open for grab and go breakfast beginning at 7:45am. Students will then take their breakfast back outside to the exterior door.
How does lunch work?
- Lunch will be outdoors undercover spaced 6 feet apart in between each child.
- Students will hand sanitize/wash hands, then get their lunch from the cafeteria, then walk to the gym for lunch.
- If students need to finish their lunch, there will be an opportunity to do so in class.
Does my child need to wear a mask at all times?
- Mask breaks will be allowed and encouraged, for a few minutes at a time.
- Classes may take a mask break together outdoors if they are at least 6 feet apart.
- Individuals may take a mask break, if supervised by a staff member.
- Masks can be off when students are eating and outdoors.
