3rd Edition: February 2020
Welcome to the New Year!
For the month of January, we want to welcome you into 2020 and share upcoming events and updates for the Coding Clubs of Aldine. We also want to say THANK YOU to each of you for giving your time, energy and patience with our students, ensuring that they are learning to code in your clubs and all over Aldine ISD.
This years' Hour of Code District-Wide event was a success!
Thank each of you for your commitment to the students and for making sure other students on your campus were able to participate in an Hour of Code.
Logistics REMINDER
Please complete the coding club activity Report (linked below) by the following Monday of the next week in order to receive compensation.
We need the following information:
- Sign-in Sheet for your club for that week (students must handwrite their names on the sign-in sheet please)
- Timesheet (with the Sponsors listed)
- Summary of what took place in the club meeting
- An image/video from that week's meeting.
- The Number of students attending your Club session.
Please make sure that the Sign-in Sheet and Timesheet have the exact same date before you submit.
You have the option to submit the activity report in two ways:
Either using the Google Doc Template or Completing the Google Form (whichever is easier for you).

Volunteers Needed: Black Girls Code
When: Saturday, February 22, 2019, @ Willowridge High School

This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of programming in python version 3. The students will be introduced to the python interpreter, input, output, variables, and if-statements through discussion and hands-on programming experience. The workshop will conclude with the creation of a game that utilizes the covered topics. The goal of this workshop is to teach foundational programming concepts along with python syntax.
This class is intended for girls ages 7-17 years old.

Across our events and core Saturday workshops, we accept technical and non-technical volunteers with a deep passion for tech diversity and inclusion and a strong sense of creating positive change in the world through social impact work.
Events/ Competition/ Challenge Opportunities for Students
Each elementary school can bring up to 10 students to STEMFest. Each Middle School can bring a total of 15 students (including the Computer Science students from classes) to STEMFest.
Aldine ISD Film and Photography Festival
We are pleased to announce that the 2020 Aldine ISD Film and Photography Festival will be held on May 1st, 2020 at the M. O. Campbell Center.
Important Reminder: ALL students in the DDM/Journalism Course are required to submit.
This year we have consolidated some categories and updated the judging rubrics and entry rules. Sponsors and students should review all paperwork carefully to ensure that they are in compliance.
There is now a copyright course that we request participants to complete through YouTube Creator Academy. You can find the link to the course inside the Rules document provided below.
