PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
August 4, 2023
Dear PK8 Families,
Thank you to all of the families that have already registered for the 2023-2024 school year! It was exciting to see many returning and new faces at school on Thursday and Friday, as families came in to complete their registration, tour the school for the first time, or just to say hi!! Nothing compares to the energy that a new school year brings, and that energy is building the closer we get to August 14th.
If you haven't registered yet, please make sure to complete your registration as soon as possible. If you are returning student, you may register online. New families should also register online, but may need to come into the school to submit paperwork such as birth certificates, proof of residency, and immunization records.
If you have a 7th or 8th grade school student, please make sure that you have completed the elective choice sheet for 1st quarter. You may submit that form online using this google form or in person at school. 7th and 8th grade student schedules will be ready by Thursday, August 10, if you'd like to stop by and pick up a copy of your schedule before the first day of school.
Kindergarten families will be contacted this week about their first day of school. We do a 'staggered' start in Kindergarten. Half of the class will come to school on Monday, August 14th, and the other half on Tuesday, August 15th. The first day for the whole class together will be Wednesday, August 16th.
First grade families should know that Mrs. Horn will be absent on the first day of school. She is very excited, and sad, to be moving her son into the Colorado State University on our first day of school. Since she will miss the first day, she's offering a class open house on Friday, August 11th, from 4:00-6:00 in her class. This is an opportunity for students to meet Mrs. Horn and for families to get acquainted with the classroom.

SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH 2023-2024
For this school year, 2023-2024, Delta County School District will be providing FREE breakfast and lunch to ALL students! This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to enjoy nutritious meals prepared locally by our kitchen staff using a mix of local and state-provided meats, vegetables, and fruit.
Even though the breakfast and lunch program is free this year, it is still critically important that families complete a Free/Reduced Lunch Application. These applications are used to determine the Federal Title I funding for our school and district.
Title I funding provides staffing for our reading and math intervention teachers, childcare for PPO meetings, and other student supports. When we do not receive adequate Title I funds, we have to lean on PPO fundraising and local building funds to fill the gap.
PLEASE fill out the district's free and reduced price lunch application at this link:
http://deltaschools.schoollunchapp.com
Even if you do not plan to eat school lunch, please apply so that we have accurate data reported for federal funding.
The school supply list can be found on our webpage under announcements.
