En la clase de Espanol...
After mastering our Days of the Week in Spanish, First Graders are moving on to numbers 0-20. Not just counting in Spanish, but identifying numbers out of order. Our Dry Erase Board Games of Tic Tac Toe, Hangman or Heads Up give us practice for Spelling, Pronunciation and Math Facts, while our website games offer extra practice in class & at home.
2nd & 3rd Graders continue to use Spanish to talk about the calendar, weather and ask each other how they’re feeling. We’re sharpening our numbers skills for 0-100 in Spanish. Again, not just counting, but using the numbers in the target language while playing games and testing our Math skills.
4th Grade News
Fourth graders are growing as readers and writers. They have been adding figurative language to their writing pieces. They realize they can do this whether its poetry or writing a thesis statement. Using figurative language adds voice and descriptive detail to help the reader visualize and understand his or her point of view. The students will be moving in to nonfiction and working toward writing a research paper!
In Math, students have been working on fractions, fractions and more fractions! Some of the topics we covered in Unit 3 included adding and subtracting fractions, converting mixed numbers and improper fractions, and writing fractions as decimals. We have really been working hard on all of this new content! We will now be starting our unit on place value, measurement and addition and subtraction. Our 4th graders are really becoming mathematicians!
In Social Studies, the students focused on immigration and took a look into their own family history and traditions. The students enjoyed learning about their peers’ cultures and finding commonalities and differences among each other.
PTO Adopt a Class
Happy New Year!!! We hope everyone had an amazing holiday and break!
We are excited to launch our Adopt A Classroom!! Please see the link below for “Adopt A Classroom”. From this page you will be able to click on and view each individual teachers wish list for their classroom through signup genius.
Once you are in a teachers classroom on signup genius, you have the ability to click on the link for a particular item. This link is located directly under the teachers name and it will bring you to the store (like amazon) where you may purchase the items you wish. We also ask that you click the “sign up” button below the list of items, on signup genius, so that everyone knows what is still available for each teacher. If you choose to purchase the products at a different store, that is fine too…we just ask that you make sure to check off the “sign up” button for tracking of the products.
Some have reached out about just donating money towards the items needed for the classroom OR going in as a group for a bigger item…this is also amazing. If you would prefer to do this please send your money in an envelope (or via Venmo to @LauraDonovan-PTO) to the attention of "Pia Mariconda-Adopt a Classroom” along with your name AND the name of the teachers classroom you are donating to. We will then make sure your donation goes towards the purchase of items needed for the classroom of your choice.
Please feel free to contact either Pia Mariconda or Vita Briggs with any questions, concerns or suggestions. We are here to help in anyway.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and generosity. YOU are a big part of what makes our school and community one of the best around! We are extremely grateful for all of you!!
Thank you,
The PTO
