Carpenter Courier
November 30, 2017
Principal's Corner
Dear Carpenter Parents,
It seems odd to be writing about the Holiday Sing while we are experiencing 50-degree weather and I still feel like we just started the school year, but here we are. We have another great month of learning and exciting activities in December.
I want to thank everyone again for your support of our Track-a-Thon. The money that our families raised ($29,934.21) has helped to contribute so much to the work that we are doing at Carpenter on a daily basis. Because of your support, we were able to open our IMAGINE LAB where students can work with their classrooms in whole group, small group, or individual. We were able to open up the Lab during indoor recess as well to provide our students with a fun, comfortable space to play board games. We are able to bring in child authors (see Kelly DiPucchio pictured below who visited Carpenter on November 29th). We have also been building our technology "resource library" that teachers can utilize to support their instruction in the classrooms. So thank you to our PTO and your continued support!
In December, we have four solid weeks of instruction with our annual holiday sing the highlight as we approach winter break. We will be completing our winter benchmarking in AIMSWEB (K/1st) and MAP (2nd-5th grade). MAP testing will be completed the week of December 11th, so please avoid scheduling appointments if possible.
Our monthly social-emotional theme for December is Dealing with Feelings December. Following the scope/sequence of Second Step, many of the lessons are focused on using strategies. So, throughout November, identifying feelings was important. Now, in December, it will be important to identify strategies to manage feelings. For example, what strategies can you implement if you feel embarrassed or nervous or angry? As always, please utilize our themes and work to support conversations that you have with your children at home to help us teach the children to generalize their skills to different settings and with different people.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Mr. Brett Balduf, Principal
