Photo Highlights of the Week
Decorations in the Commons
Many thanks to our Thomas P.T.O. for decorating the commons this week! When walking in, you can see spider webs complete with spiders, pumpkins hanging from the ceiling, ghosts and goblins on the stage, and even a balloon arch on the way out to recess! Wow! You have truly changed the entire look of the commons, P.T.O friends. Thank you for bringing smiles to our faces! The chalk on the sidewalk reminding us of the Monster Mash was fun to see as well!
Ms. Galden's kindergarten group enjoyed looking at the decorations on the stage. They provided a perfect and authentic language experience for these five year olds.
Mystery Reader
Many of our primary classrooms have been planning mystery readers for years. Children love to have a special guest, sometimes a family member, join the classroom to read a story. Since COVID, we have had to hold off on numerous visitors in the building. Classrooms are trying to be creative and continue to have this experience.
Mrs. Turnow's class was able to meet their Mystery Reader, Mrs. Anderson, outside on Friday They put on coats, kept on masks, and sat outside in the sunshine to enjoy a story shared by a special person. We look forward to more opportunities for mystery readers:-)
The 2nd & 7 Foundation Visits
Second graders at Thomas welcomed athletes from The Ohio State on Friday. Many of these college students from the men's lacrosse team introduced themselves and their favorite book, plus read a story to each class. Students were highly engaged as these athletes shared their joy of reading!
The mission of the 2nd & 7 Foundation is to promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward. They certainly accomplished their goal!
We are proud to provide a variety of experiences for our students at Thomas Elementary!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parent-Teacher Conferences This Week
Thomas P.T.O. Monster Mash Thank you!
What a spooktacular success! Monster Mash 2021 was celebrated in a festive and safe way! Many thanks to Amanda Castle and Jamie Neely for planning and organizing this event! We appreciated families setting up such creative stations and supplying treats for Trunk or Treat too! How lucky we were to have perfect weather for this fun, fall gathering!
Thomas Families, you are something special! We are very fortunate to have such a generous, caring, and considerate community to come together and delight in each other's company, feeling safe and experiencing the joy and gifts each of us brings to our gathering. Together we make a terrific team!
Fall Harvest Parties
Thomas is thrilled to be able to hold Fall Harvest Parties on Friday, October 29, 2021! The party will be held for PM kindergarten and most classes in first grade through fifth grade during the last session of the day (2:45 p.m.-3:30 p.m.). First graders in Ms. Bender's, Miss Alleman's, and Mrs. Weber's classes will hold their party for the 45 minutes right before going to related arts at 2:50 p.m. The three, first grades will enjoy their celebration during 2:00-2:45 p.m. Morning kindergarten will hold their party beginning at 11:00 a.m., as they leave at 11:50 a.m.
We will only be able to allow one to two volunteers per classroom into the building to orchestrate the party. Parties will be very similar across classrooms and grade levels with a craft, activity, and/or game. See this link for examples.
To mitigate the spread of COVID, we will be following these guidelines:
The Fall Harvest Party celebration will not include costumes or the costume parade. There are several reasons behind this decision. One, students change into their costumes at school and we cannot maintain safe distancing during that process. Also students typically switch classrooms and/or use the restrooms to change. This process would impede our ability to conduct accurate contact tracing. Finally, donning costumes might require the removal of masks, which is not a safe practice with unvaccinated students. Thank you for understanding:-)
Food will not be consumed at the parties. Some goody bags may be sent home, depending on the planning done by room parents. Food will be selected according to reported allergies in the classroom.
Limited volunteers wearing masks, 2 per classroom, will support the parties. In most cases, the volunteers will be the one to two room parents.
With support of the PTO in planning the harvest party, students will enjoy activities and a craft to celebrate this festive time of year!
Thank you for your patience and understanding:-)
