Earthquakes PBL

In this wiki project, I worked with Naria Alam, Mallory Hume, and Samantha Fedewa to build an earthquake resistant house for Tony Stark with a block of clay, 20 popsicle sticks, 20 toothpicks, 10 straws, and a piece of string. In addition it had to be seven feet tall, it had to have four walls, it had it have two floors, and it had to fit on the plate which was where we were supposed to build the structure. Naria was the Materials Manager, Mallory was the Photographer and Image Manager, Samantha was the Lead Builder and Tester, and I was the Wiki Project Manager. Throughout the project, we referred to the driving question: How can we, as structural engineers, construct a two story house in California for Tony Stark that will withstand seismic activity? First, we decided to build his house at Lake Tahoe. Next we each drew two blueprints. Using all of our ideas we came up with our final blueprint. The first floor was shaped like a cube. For support, we added braces which were made out of toothpicks. The second floor was shaped like a square pyramid. It was supported by straws. The main structure of the building was made out of popsicle sticks. The clay was used to hold the structure together. We put some clay on the bottom as well so the structure would stick onto the plate. We ended up using all of the available materials. Our structure survived the shake test which mimicked of a real earthquake.

Atmoshere 30 Hands Project

This project was done independantly. I used the Pic Collage and 30 Hands apps in this project. I had to make nine slides. The first slide was the and the last slide was the. I even added in a extra "Thank You for Watching" slide at the end. This project explains what is climate change, global warming, greenhouse gasses, the greenhouse effect, and emmisions. I hope you like it!

Invention Convention

I created an invention with Naria Alam made out of reusable trash. It is called the Hydroelectric Drain System. When water goes down a drain like in a sink for example, it spins a turbine which is located in the drain pipe. The motion from the spinning turbine is converted into electricity by the generator. The electricity produced by the generator can be used for anything. This way, you optimize the water you use to it's full potential.
