Principal's Message
Parents and Community Stakeholders,
We have an eventful month ahead of us as we approach our 100th day of school and recognize Black History Month. Our Chimborazo Winter Dance was an amazing event, and all that were in attendance enjoyed the food, dancing, and games that our PTA and volunteers worked so hard to put together. If you are looking for a way to be involved in the school that will benefit Chimborazo and your child’s education then PTA would be a great start as we have numerous events still planned as the year continues. We will be meeting next week, the 7th, at 5:30 pm.
Academically, we have just finishing up our mid-year assessments in language arts and math to see how much progress our students have made. We will use these results to provide remediation and enrichment. We encourage you to send your child, if in grades 2 through 5, to attend tutoring during the week or Saturday mornings. Additionally, please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions as to how you can support your child at home and at school. Report cards will be out the first week of this month and comments and grades will give you an idea of the progress your child is making. Our teachers are conducting goal conferences with our students as we implement many educationally relevant Olympic activities that correlate with our theme to "Go for the Goal." These educational activities will also coincide with the Winter Olympics that begin next week in South Korea.
We will be off and running this month with numerous events and special visitors. Our new superintendent, Jason Kamras, will be spending half the day with our jaguars next week and will even be teaching a class. Blue Sky will continue working with classes to more readily enable then to make scientific connections between the classroom and real-world as our students develop an understanding of how the world works and the community we live in. 4th grade will be traveling to Monticello and we will have Black History month celebrations including a visit by the Virginia Repertoire Theatre for a presentation on Sojourner Truth and an after school presentation . As always, thank you for the support of our students, staff, and school as we continue to make strides each and every day at Chimborazo.
Respectfully,
