How Language Impacts Learning for ELLs (Session #1)

- Explore and apply strategies for developing valid formative assessment for ELs, and using formative assessment evidence to plan instruction for ELs.
- Build a repertoire of formative assessments that can be used with and scaffolded for ELs.

Put Equity Into Action - an Interactive Crash Course on Diversity in the School Library
Put equity into action with this asynchronous PD.
Within you will learn how to conduct a diversity audit (and what to do with the data), along with how to diversify your collection.
Gain or deepen your understanding of important notions, like cultural competency, implicit bias, and recognizing privilege.
Tour the impact of social and literary movements like, #OwnVoices and #WeNeedDiverseBooks, along with ways you can participate.
Learn about stereotypes and tropes that exist in literature and in the real world, as well as why they are harmful.
Learn why all of the above are so important to understand as a school librarian-- along with how to confront racism, and share ideas about how to be an antiracist school librarian!
You will walk away with resources, ideas and knowledge about diversity in the school library.
The culmination of this asynchronous PD session will be the completion of 4 learning tasks:
1. Conduct a mini diversity audit on a small subsection of your collection
2. Share the analysis of your findings
3. Share how you will put equity into action using what you found
4. Share something you would like to learn more about regarding diversity in the school library
Registered participants will receive, on 3/1/21, the interactive PD presentation, Padlet URL and Google Doc with instructions for the 4 learning tasks.
In order to receive 4 hours of CTLE credits for this session, participants must complete and submit all outlined learning tasks by 3/31/21 at 11:59 p.m.
