2nd GRADE SPOTLIGHT
Second graders have been busy as bees this April. We have had many field trips to learn hands-on things that happen in our community and to connect it to what they have learned in the classroom.
First, students had the experience of visiting Mr. Boettcher’s Sugar Bush. They were able to see the whole process of making maple syrup. With the weather being so undependable this year, the field trip was a month later than usual and the sap season itself was also affected. It was still a wonderful experience to walk through the woods to see how the sap is collected and the huge tanks to collect it in.

Keep up the great work!

Band Open House - Monday, May 6th from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Dear Future Band Parents,
There will be a band department open house Monday, May 6, from 4:00-6:30 p.m. in the elementary band room. Representatives from local music stores will be on hand to assist with selecting a band instrument.
All of the band instruments will be on display and you will be able to rent one for your child for this coming school year. As you can see on the attached flyers, there are a wide variety of trial options for your child. I would strongly recommend using a trial rental program for your child. By using an instrument from a reputable dealer, we will know that your child is starting on the best instrument possible and will have the best chance of success.
If you have an instrument already, I would recommend bringing it to the open house for me to check over, just to make sure it is in good working condition. If it needs repair, you can send it to the repair shop that night and have it ready for summer lessons.
Please do not purchase an instrument online! An instrument that looks like a great deal will end up costing you more money in the long run, as these cheaply made instruments are constantly in the repair shop. They tend to be badly out of tune and break easily.
The school district owns several French Horns and baritones that students would be able use, instead of renting one. Parents are responsible for any repair costs that would incur during the school year.
Summer Band Lesson Information will be forthcoming.
If you have questions please don’t hesitate to call or email. Thanks!

Summer Reading
When it comes to summer reading, did you know that the summer slide and not staying active with reading over the summer can set your child back 2-3 months when he or she returns to school in the fall? Check out this Summer Slide Infographic from the Cadott Elementary School Library to learn more about how the summer slide can affect your child and to find school library resources your child can use over the summer to help combat the summer slide. You'll also find some ideas for what you can do as a parent to keep your child reading regularly throughout the summer.
Next week check out the Weekly Buzz for links that will help teach you how to use and access the resources listed in this flyer.
Also, gear up for summer reading help from the Cadott Elementary School Library by following us on Twitter @CSDLibraries. Over the summer you'll receive weekly notifications that include reading recommendations, reading challenges, and information about the school library summer reading program to help keep your child reading over the summer.
Here's a link to the online flyer if you need a separate link when putting it into Smore: https://www.canva.com/design/DADTSlWWlqY/REQfTOg2bIs-gr1tkPOn0A/view?utm_content=DADTSlWWlqY&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=sharebutton

Head Start 3-Year-Old Classroom Within the Cadott School District Elementary
CESA 11 Head Start will be opening a 3 yr old classroom within the Cadott elementary building this fall. The classroom will be able to offer 17 income-eligible 3 year olds an age appropriate early education experience. Along with the educational aspect of the program, family services, health, and nutrition are also key elements. Head Start was developed in 1964 as a part of then President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty. Experts were called on to create a comprehensive child development program to help communities support lower income families and children access to quality early education services.
While there are income guidelines for enrollment in this classroom, there are also some factors that can qualify a child/family regardless of income: being a foster child, receiving SSI, and receiving W-2 are some of those factors. Selection is based on need/priority points so please contact Kari Roshell at 715-667-3104 (Stanley-Boyd Head Start center) for more information or to fill out enrollment paperwork. CESA 11 Head Start is excited to be able to offer this classroom within the Cadott School District!
Cadott 12U Softball
We had a cold start to our season with a home game on Tuesday April 30th versus Elk Mound. The girls did a great job despite the cold weather and drizzle that came down for most of the game. Please come and cheer on the Cadott Black and Cadott Yellow 12U softball teams at their games! Awesome job girls, we are looking forward to a fun season and warmer weather!
