2019-2020 School Year 4-12-2020 Update #6
From The Principal
Just wanted to remind you to please reach out to me, our counselor, assistant principal or any or your children's amazing teachers if you need anything. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the celebrations - we are here to help and support each other.
With warm regards,
From the Superintendent
Grades for the Fourth Grading Period of 2019-2020
We have received guidance from Conroe ISD regarding grades for the current and final grading period of 2019-2020. The link below will provide the official procedures for the district.
Teacher's will make the necessary adjustments to the grade book starting the week of April 6th - 10th. For students unable to complete the on-line work or hard copy packets the weekly grade for Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, and Writing will be reflected with the entry of "X". The "X" does not mean the student was exempt from the weekly grade, but rather due to extraordinary circumstances was not able to accomplish school work during this time of crisis.
The focus of our current instruction should not be about the grade of any assignment. The work your teacher provides is meant to help you continue learning at the appropriate pace that meets your family's needs. These adjustments are being made, not as an easing of our academic standards, but as an acknowledgement and understanding that we are learning and growing together through these challenging times.
Fine Arts / PE
We are in the process of rescheduling our April PTO meeting. When the virtual meeting has been rescheduled we will communicate the new date immediately.
Mrs. McCure Update
Greetings Collins’ Students and Parents!
I hope all of you are doing well this week. Please take a moment to fill out the survey from Mrs. LeBlanc if you didn’t fill it out last week. Remember that you can reach out to me at any time by either filling out the Google Form https://tinyurl.com/r6uqwod or emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you didn’t have a chance to check out Conroe ISD Social Emotional Learning (SEL) components within the Parent’s Resource page, go to http://bit.ly/conroeisdparent . When you click on your student’s grade level, you will see a SEL piece.
This upcoming week’s theme is emotions. Right now I realize that many of you are going through many emotions. This is actually okay and very normal. Your emotions are going to be varying throughout the day and throughout the week and upcoming weeks. This is normal. Take the time to talk about what you are feeling and experiencing with your parents. And, please remember that this is new territory for all of us. It’s okay to feel the way you are, and everyone is going through the roller coaster of emotions.
Today, my daughter talked to me a lot about her college lecture that talked about the importance of vitamin D and mood. Getting out in the sunshine whether it is a cloudy day or a sunny day for 20 minutes a day helps improve your mood and allows your body to soak up the sun. Don’t sit under a tree or stay in shade, actually be without shade. Staying inside and playing video games or binge watching shows is actually counterproductive to helping us with our emotions since we don’t get those important vitamins we need.
Take care and enjoy your week. For those of you who are wondering what Peaches is up to now, she has found a new place to “work”....the beach towels we brought in from yesterday after being outside soaking up the sun and vitamin D. As you can see, she “helps” me work a lot. Miss you a lot.
Collins - make it a great day! - Mrs. McCure

I'm Kellie Lahey, the Tech Coach at Collins, and I am here to help our Collins family make the new online learning environment a positive experience.
Please reach out to me when you are frustrated with anything related to technology and school work- no problem is too small or too big! I can help you, or I can get the resources to help both of us take care of whatever issue you or your student is having with their activity/assignment/project, and can troubleshoot Windows 10, Mac, tablet, and phone issues.
Please fill out the form to make sure that your situation gets addressed.
Also, please read the attachment to get a general idea of some things to remember.
I have a YouTube channel that may provide some help for you-look at the section called Canvas for Parents or Parents-Helpful Videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyVxC2JVFjGfWkMb2gDZ2vw
Here to Help,
Parents/students looking for "something to do" can use the following info to access free online books- which includes "How-to" and project books. See the pdf attached.
Also, there's not a better time to learn ways to "Be Internet Awesome" so that families can navigate safely online:
Common Sense Media: my all time favorite resource for parents and students for Internet safety, media reviews, and reliable information about living/coping in our digital world. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/
The timing is right for learning to code at home! Whether you want to spend 30 minutes or want to go in depth with an online course, the Code.org folks have the activities for you:
Instructables- great for 3D printing, but even more great because it also has tutorials on making crafts, cooking, living, and outdoors! https://www.instructables.com/
A Message From Mr. Daw, Knox Principal
We want all of our families to know that even though we are having to run things a little differently, we are available to our students and families during this difficult time. Please know that we are working on a daily basis and do respond to our families within a 24 hour period.
It is that time of year where we need you to verify your child's Junior high course requests. A Course Request option is now available in Parent/Student Access under Student Plans. This is where you will find any and all changes that have been made/requested since we met with your student.
Course requests for 2020-2021 will only be found under the Course Request Tab under Student Plans.
Math Enrichment and Reading Enrichment are support courses utilized to assist students who have been identified as needing additional support in Math and/or Reading. If your student has been identified as needing these courses, these year-long courses will take the place of two semester electives.
Students have until May 1st to request any changes. Please send us all course change requests by email. If you make a course request change, please know the system updates every evening so you may not see changes in the system for 24 hours.
Again, we are here for you and happy to answer any questions that you might have.
