Gung Hey Fat Choy! Chuc Mung Nam Moi! Happy Lunar New Year From Room 104
News and Information
As we were talking about Groundhog Day the children asked what a shadow was. So now we are investigating shadows. We will try to answer some of the questions they had, such as "Why does my shadow follow me?", "What makes a shadow?" etc. We have flashlights, and lots of fun materials to experiment with. Ask your child what they have discovered about light and shadows this week.
Next week will be quite busy, Lunar New Year is on Monday and there will be a Lunar New Year assembly on Tuesday morning, the kindergarten students will be performing a song. Pizza lunch is Wednesday and Friday is of course a PA day for parent/teacher interviews. Plus, of course Valentine's Day and Family Day the following weekend.
The children will be decorating valentine's bags to collect the Valentines they receive from each other. We would like to remind parents NOT to send in food for Valentine’s Day as there are children in the kindergarten classes with food allergies and restrictions. If you wish to send something with your child, cards, stickers, pencils and small toys are more than welcome. A class list was sent home on Friday for your information. Thank you.

Information and Reminders!
- No library book exchange this week. Keep the book at home and enjoy reading together.
- Poetry Folders come home every Friday, please have fun reading the poems/songs together. Make sure the folders come back to school in the mailbag on Monday so we can add the new page.
- Many of the children have the same or very similar clothing and they do not always know which items belong to them. This is taking up a lot of our time and causing some upset feelings. Please, please help us out by making sure that all removable clothing has your child's name written on the inside label. Thank you.
- The Ministry of Education has added an extra PD day to the current school year. So on Friday, April 15th 2016 there will be no school for the students.

Winter Clothes and Spare Clothing
Getting dressed and undressed continues to take a long time so it will really help us if your child is as independent as possible. Please talk to your child about putting their clothes on in the right order, some of them are trying to put snowpants on after their coats etc and this just does not work well :-). Also many children are still having difficulty with their zippers. Please practise at home.
A good order would be: 1. snowpants 2. coat 3. neck warmer and hat 4. boots 5. gloves/mittens.
This is also a good time to review the emergency clothes that are at school. Do they still fit and are they suitable for the season? Please make sure your child's spare clothes are in a sealed bag that is clearly labelled, large ziplocks bags work well.

Show and Tell 20 Questions
For the month of February we are going to continue being detectives. We are also going to practise asking good questions. So on your child's special day they should bring in a mystery object of their choice. They do not need to have any clues ready this time as the class will ask yes/no questions to gather information and then try to guess the object. Please make sure your child knows as much as possible about the object they bring in so they can answer the questions correctly. Some examples could be food (apple, cracker etc.) or something from your kitchen (fork, sppon, cup etc.) or a piece of clothing etc. This will help them to practise using questions that will help them to narrow down the guesses.
Here are the special helpers for next week.
Monday, Feb. 8th: Jaiden
Tuesday, Feb. 9th: Kristina
Wednesday, Feb. 10th: Melissa
Thursday, Feb. 11th: Anika and Charles
