Principals Message
I cannot believe how quickly this school year is going. We are already in March! We have done amazing things so far and I can’t wait to continue them throughout this school year. As always, our number one priority is to make sure our students are safe. Every month I go into classrooms to role-play a Toolbox Tool and this month I am role-playing the Courage Tool. Here are some other awesome highlights from our school that we are proud of:
Kindergarten: Collaborating with Program Assistants to create readers workshop rotations!
First Grade: Starting our STEAM classes and learning how to be engineers!
Second Grade: Jumping head first into guided reading and using reading behaviors and learning how to code!
Third Grade: Exploring water conservation through Sonoma County Water Organization and how to keep our planet healthy!
Fourth Grade: Learning how to ice skate at Snoopy’s Ice Arena and doing amazing research projects on animals and problem/solution!
Fifth Grade: Creating Maker Projects around our engineering practices!
Sixth Grade: Attending 6th Grade Camp March 11th-13th!
EVERYONE working together as a team and supporting students safety and learning at school!
Also, our district is working with Kamm Solutions to come up with our district values. We already worked with all stakeholders to come up with our new mission and vision for our district. Here is our new mission and new vision statements:
PINER-OLIVET USD:
INSPIRING JOYFUL AND INNOVATIVE LEARNING IN AN EVER-CHANGING WORLD
POUSD MISSION – AS A COMMUNITY, WE ENGAGE IN AUTHENTIC, DYNAMIC, AND RELEVANT LEARNING THAT DEVELOPS EACH STUDENT'S ACADEMIC, EMOTIONAL, AND SOCIAL GROWTH.
A HUGE Shout out to all Jack London Families and the YMCA for putting on an amazing Crab Feed on Saturday, February 23rd. It was a WONDERFUL success and a ton of fun! Thank you! Let’s have a wonderful month of learning!

Mrs. Dyer's 2nd-grade superheroes have been busy! Our tech coach Mrs. Zavala helped us learn to code! We just finished our first round of guided reading, making words, and Read Naturally. We are also studying People Who Make A Difference (Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Steve Jobs are our favorites.) and creating landforms!
Room J4
Mrs. Brady's 4th Grade students are currently working on their "Problem and Solution Projects". Working individually, with a partner, or in a small group, this project requires the students to research, brainstorm, write, illustrate, and present.
Room J1
Mrs. Schuler's 4th & 5th graders are beginning a unit on the California Gold Rush. For art, students are making Celtic knots design with paper in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. In mathematics, we are learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and decimals. Students are working in small groups to hone reading comprehension skills. February 28 culminates our last day of ice skating lessons at Snoopy's Home Ice. The students' skating skills and self-confidence have blossomed during these fun outings.
