Enrollment Study
The District commissioned a study to better understand the trajectory of its enrollment. That information, which can be accessed by clicking the following links, was presented at the May 22 Board of Education meeting. The relevant portion of that meeting is available here.
School Safety Plan
A draft of the 2023-24 School Safety Plan is available for public review.
Unless noted otherwise, all Board of Education meetings will be held in the middle school cafeteria. You can find agendas and upcoming meeting dates by visiting the following link: BOE Agendas
Please know that all meetings will be uploaded to our YouTube channel the day following the meeting. The latest video is enclosed for your viewing.
Custodian Honored for Lifesaving Actions
Please join us in celebrating Mohansic custodian Craig Nelson, whose quick-thinking and heroic actions may have saved a student’s life.
On May 11, a Mohansic student experienced a choking incident involving a food object. Reacting swiftly and without hesitation, Craig sprang into action, performing the Heimlich maneuver until the obstruction was successfully dislodged.
Craig's heroic efforts were recognized at the June 12 Board of Education meeting. The Yorktown Central School District, the Mohansic Elementary School family, and our entire school community are profoundly grateful for his actions.
YCSD Celebrates Anniversaries, Retirees
At the June 12 Board of Education meeting, we were proud to honor dozens of educators and faculty members celebrating retirements or milestone anniversaries. Congratulations and thank you for making the Yorktown Central School District such a special place!

School Partner Recognition Night
At the June 5 Board of Education meeting, we had the privilege of honoring remarkable volunteers and partners who have made invaluable contributions to our District.
Since its establishment in 2018, “School Partner Recognition Night” has been an annual event dedicated to recognizing these unsung heroes of education. We extend our deepest gratitude for their tireless efforts in spearheading community events, securing grants, and supporting various aspects of our educational and extracurricular programs.
The following groups we recognized for their exceptional efforts: District PTSA, SEPTA, YHS PTSA, MESMS PTSA, Crompond PTSA, Brookside PTSA, Mohansic PTSA, Foundation for Excellence, First Nighters, Huskers Club, Alliance for Safe Kids, and Science Research Foundation.
Dr. Hattar was proud to shine the spotlight on these volunteers, stating, “Your service to our district is so deeply appreciated. Everyone is so busy. We appreciate you finding the time to be here for the children of our District.”
Additionally, we would like to extend our recognition to Aramark, our dedicated food service vendor for over two decades. Aramark's commitment has far surpassed their contractual obligations, making them a true school partner of our school district.
Recently, Aramark generously donated its time and resources to support the Special Olympics Pioneer League Dinner Dance, which took place at Yorktown High School. Organizing food service for nearly 300 athletes, coaches, and aides is no easy task, but Aramark stepped in, providing volunteer assistance and food donations for the entire event.
We extend our sincerest thanks to all our partners for the immeasurable contributions you make to our district. Your dedication and support are instrumental.
Science Research Students Honored
Yorktown High School’s Science Research program has established itself as a top contender on the global stage — and they’ve got the hardware to prove it.
Throughout the 2022-23 school year, our Science Research students competed and won at regional, national, and international science fairs. We were delighted to acknowledge and celebrate these remarkable accomplishments during a recent Board of Education meeting.
Among the award recipients was junior Eric Song, whose innovative ransomware detection and mitigation system earned him a spot at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Dallas, where he secured a remarkable second place in his category.
Science Research teacher Mr. Paul Rubeo, who proudly introduced the students and their accomplishments, shared his excitement about the program's continuous growth, noting that more than 70 students expected to join the program next school year.
Please visit our website for a complete list of award winners.
YCSD Educators Granted Tenure
Twenty-five of our exceptional educators were granted tenure at a Board of Education meeting in May. These dedicated individuals have demonstrated unwavering commitment to their profession and actively integrated themselves into the school community.
