Eco Schools Silver Award

We are delighted that our Eco Warriors achieved the Eco Schools Silver Award this week for all their hard work towards their action plan. They have been supported by Mrs Gatenby and Mrs Dugher to enact a number of changes in our approaches to transport, waste and energy. We hope that they will be able to submit an application for the Green Flag Award by the end of the year.

Competition Winner!

Well done to one of our pupils, she won the North Yorkshire design a meal competition. Look out for this exciting new dish on the menu in September! Well done Connie.

Reading

As you know, reading is exceptionally important and we encourage children throughout school to constantly practise their reading skills. We know that building learning takes repetition and practice, and it is vital that they read regularly at home regardless of their age. Young children need the opportunity to practise their phonics decoding, and older children should be developing fluency and comprehension in order to extend their vocabulary. You can find guides on how to help your child with their reading on our website: https://monkfryston.n-yorks.sch.uk/key-stage-1/

PTA Events

Now that restrictions are easing, PTA are hoping to hold a couple of appropriately socially-distanced events before the end of term in order to raise funds for our school. We are aiming to purchase a new set of Chromebooks as ours are reaching the end of their life, and we would like to improve our reading resources. During June we would like our children to do a sponsored litter pick, and we will hold a treasure hunt around the village in July – more about these events will be sent out soon.
