The last day of school at EGMS will be June 17th. This is a HALF day. Students will be released at 10:10 and our buses depart at 10:16.

Due to COVID restrictions, there are no events planned around 8th graders promoting to high school. We will celebrate at school with treats, yearbook signing time and postcards.

Mummified Chicken

Two years ago we started our unit on Ancient Egypt and mummifed a chicken. It was a 40-day process before wrapping it with layers and layers of gauze and precious "amulets and jewels" - think Hello Kitty rings. Prior to wrapping, the students completely immersed the chicken in salt. Each week we removed all salt, analyzed the chicken for changes in size, appearance, texture, odor, and then covered it in salt for another week. Those first few weeks were pretty gross! Today, those once-upon-a-time 6th graders finally got to see what remained. Normally, my students are invited back one year later to see what is left of their chicken. Alas, we all know how 2020 worked out.
