Tiger Talk
District Newsletter - January 15, 2023
Superintendent's Message
Loveland Tiger Families,
I hope your students are enjoying the three-day weekend, as school is closed tomorrow to mark the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. We are entering the days where I hear a lot about snow days from our students. I stopped in Julie Powers’ classroom at the high school, and they even have a “Snow” Burrow Snowman in anticipation of a snow day. Luckily, the weather has been awesome, and so have the Bengals!
While at LHS on Friday morning, I had the privilege to speak to our Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT) before school. The students showed up at 6:45 AM to attend the meeting and were simply amazing. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to get to know our students, as they are why we do what we do every day. I am so impressed with our SALT members and their commitment to becoming leaders. Thanks to our SALT advisors, Brian and Rachel Baugh, for leading by example.
The Board of Education held its organizational meeting last week. Dr. Kathy Lorenz and Jonathan Eilert will serve as Board President and Vice President this year. The schedule of the 2023 Board Meetings can be found on our website by following this link.
During the January 10 meeting David Thompson, from the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, discussed the steps in the Fiscal Distress process for school districts. The Auditor’s Office was invited to provide the Board and our community with more information about what triggers a district being placed in Fiscal Precaution, Caution, Watch, or Emergency. You can watch this part of the discussion by following this link or watch the entire Board Meeting on our Board Meeting YouTube page here.
At the upcoming Board Meeting on January 19, 2023, Treasurer Rob Giuffre’ will present an updated Five-year Forecast with important information regarding district finances in light of the November levy failure. The District will also be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Monday, January 23, at 6 pm in the media center at Loveland Intermediate School. It will be similar to the Town Hall held on January 5, which gave our community an opportunity to share thoughts about the financial future of Loveland City Schools. If you were unable to attend that event, you can watch the recording by following this link.
District leadership is committed to avoiding falling into fiscal distress, but there are difficult decisions ahead around increasing local tax revenue or reducing expenses. We look forward to working with our community to improve the district’s financial situation while continuing to deliver a top-tier education for our Loveland Tiger students.
If you have further questions or thoughts, please send them my way: broadwmi@lovelandschools.org.
Go Tigers!

Loveland is Cincinnati’s First “Heart Safe School”
In case you missed the news last summer, we want to remind you that Loveland High School is the Cincinnati area’s first “Heart Safe School.” This designation means we have met the protocol set forth by Project Adam for training and response to cardiac events in the school to save lives. Thank you to our health team for working with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center to take this vital step for the safety of our community. Learn more about Project Adam by following this link. Last week, WCPO Channel 9 highlighted this important work, and you can find more on our social media.
Jamie Gordon Named “Colonel Paxton Ranger”
Loveland High School counselor Jamie Gordon and her husband Scott were recently honored as “Colonel Paxton Rangers” by the City of Loveland. The Colonel Paxton Rangers designation recognizes distinguished service by Loveland area citizens who improve the city Colonel Paxton founded. The Gordons owned and operated The Works Brick Oven Pizza for 20 years in downtown Loveland and recently sold at the end of 2022.
“The Gordons have made many contributions to the City of Loveland and can be credited with helping to begin the city’s revitalization in the early 2000s,” Mayor Kathy Bailey said.
In November, the Gordons were also honored with the Lift Up Loveland Award by the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance. Congratulations, and thank you for your dedication to our community!
