Early life
George Washington carver was born in Diamond Grove,Missouri around 1864.A frail,sickly child,Carver was unable to work in the fields,so he did household chores and gardening.He was left with many free hours to wander the woods-collecting rocks and flowers,and beginning a lifelong affair with nature.He soon became known as the "plant doctor"and would help friends and neighbors nurture sick plants.

1.Most people assume that Carver was born in Alabama but he was born in Diamond,Missiouri before the Civil War.
2.Not only was Carver skilled in finding uses for peanuts,he also found new ways to use Alabama clay and sweet potatoes.
3.in addition to being an excellent scientist and inventor,Carver was also an accomplished pianist and painter.His artwork was exhibited at the World's Fair in 1893.
