Marcus HS Library Weekly Update
Mrs. McGinnis and Mrs. Virant
May 18 - 22, 2020
Congratulations!! You did it!! We made it to the last week of virtual school and online learning!!
These past nine weeks we have learned a lot together. Everyone has made adjustments and survived to enjoy our new modified summer!
This last issue of our newsletter for the 2019-2020 school year includes information to help you keep reading over the summer.
We start off with some places you can go on the internet to learn more about 3D printing. You can look at objects created by others or you can learn to design your own creations.
We have put together an exciting list of virtual ideas for summer fun which can be enjoyed as places, events and venues slowly begin to open up.
We have included links to public libraries to show you what they have to offer over the summer as well as an LISD link to even more library information.
And last but not least….many of you may know that our MHS library theme last year was a “Reading Road Trip” and we have picked a new theme for this upcoming 2020-2021 school year.
Our new theme is “Superheroes” as we have found this to have several meanings for us in the upcoming school year.
Reading can be a superpower! It allows you to channel all kinds of ideas.
We all know that in our community we have many superheroes and we want to connect with our community now more than ever.
We’ve also chosen some Sora/Overdrive books on the traditional superheroes we are all familiar with to help kick off this new program.
Now and next school year help us celebrate reading, learning, our community and helping others!
Have a great summer! See you in August!

Hello Marcus High School -
The last few weeks we were at school in March, we were changing up the library. After decades of the books being in the same place we started to mix it up a little.
The fiction books are now along the back wall and the non-fiction books are in the short bookcases.
We thought we'd remind you about our genre arrangement of the fiction books with some examples you can find on Sora.
Also, wanted to share some more book teasers written by Marcus High School National English Honor Society students. These books can be found on Sora as well.
Next week will be our last newsletter as summer will be upon us. Great coming attractions for that last edition.
Included also is the Family Resource Page for week 6 sharing information about Digital Citizenship.
Thoughts for the week include the reminders to always be kind, dream big and finish strong!
Hope you are settled in to online learning and starting to venture out a bit more.
Take care always,

Hello everyone,
Since we are all using our iPads, Macs and PC's more than ever in these times of online learning...you will find below some shortcuts to help when using these devices. You may already know them or perhaps you'll learn something new. :)
We have also included a collage from Mr. Skelton asking the Marauder Nation to unite and hang ribbons of solidarity (red for the students and silver for the staff) to help us stand as a community in this difficult time. Remembering that we are all in this together.
We are Marcus! We are One!
Friday is May Day! An old fashioned holiday to give flowers in baskets that were blooming from all the April rain. "April showers bring May flowers." Perhaps go outside for a walk on Friday, admire some of the flowers around you or feeling more adventurous build a butterfly garden. Directions are listed below compliments of the Town of Flower Mound.
Enjoy the warmer weather. :)
