Mrs. Burridge's Literature & Film class practiced using lighting techniques to re-create archetypes from Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House.

The students in Graphic Design learned about Gestalt Theory in order to understand the way our brains analyze visual data to see patterns. Students explored a complex idea without the use of words by using a limited set of tools; in this instance the black square. Students illustrated the following words: order, increase, bold, congested, tension, and playful. It was fun to see how many designs were similar to one another as well as the unique perspectives many brought to the bulletin board!

On Saturday, in between SATs and work, Alex Diogenes installed the Bee Box he made last spring as a service project for AP Environmental Science into the CMHS Rain Garden. The Bee Box will provide egg-laying sites for native solitary bees to overwinter. Nice work Alex making our local school environment more environmentally friendly.

Mrs. Bardetti's CP English classes held relay races in the cafeteria last week. Students were sorted into two teams: Socs or Greasers from The Outsiders. After the competition, both classes had meaningful discussions about privilege and advantage, both within the world of the novel and in our community today.

Last week, Mrs. Bardetti's 8th grade Honors students created their own skits based on scenes from To Kill a Mockingbird. Students discussed what it means to feel "other" and had to write their skits from a different point of view than the original scene.

This week in Chemistry Mrs. Cornock's class learned about the periodic table by arranging the elements themselves and predicting their properties based on trends they discovered.

Measure the Sun!

8th Graders returned to our Carver School Planetarium for a 2nd Lab Activity!

They measured how many hours the Sun appears in the sky each season and also how high the Sun rises in the sky each season.

Did the 8th graders discover any patterns that could help explain the reasons for the seasons? Ask an 8th grader near you to find out!
