Winter Gear
All students must bring winter gear to school for their outdoor times. This means long pants, jackets (which are more substantial than a hoodie), gloves, hats, and snow boots. District policy requires students to be dressed appropriately to go outside and staying indoors to play around is not an option.
Reading
This week sixth graders continue reading a tale of neuroscience in the mid 1800's called, "Phineas Gage: A Gruesome but True Story About Brain Science". It has been interesting to think about a time when doctors did not know to wash their hands, sterilize their surgical field, or not wear their 'Sunday Best' into the operating room!
Fifth graders will be beginning a book entitled; William Shakespeare and the Globe. According to reviews, "Aliki combines literature, history, biography, archaeology, and architecture in this richly detailed and meticulously researched introduction to Shakespeare′s world-his life in Elizabethan times, the theater world, and the Globe, for which he wrote his plays. Then she brings history full circle to the present-day reconstruction of the Globe Theater."
Cause and Effect relationships and Main Idea are the focused learning points for these Expository texts.
Spelling!
We have been deeply concerned not only with our own spelling errors, but with the spelling errors of our students. This short week we are going to study words that are throwing off everyone. These words are: we're, were, their, they're, there, are, our, hour, where, and wear. Help your kids by showing them the difference between these words.
