Irmo Elementary Family Updates
#HeartoftheHive #BetterTogether January 18-22
A Note From Your Principal
Dear IES Families,
This week we celebrated and honored unity at both IES and across D5. It is a priority for our bees to understand the importance of working together, growing, and learning as ONE. What could be more appropriate as we celebrate the work of Dr. Martin Luther King tomorrow? May we all reflect and act on this every day through our kindness and love for others. Please review the important details and dates below.

Important Updates from D5 for Redistricting
School District Five of Lexington & Richland Counties provides information, videos and updates to keep our staff and families engaged and informed. We aim to share factual information in a timely manner.
School District Five Board of Trustees requests more redistricting scenarios
The Lexington-Richland School District Five Board of Trustees is seeking more options for the district’s redistricting plan.
During a board workshop on January 6, board members asked engineering and planning firm Milone & MacBroom to create two more scenarios that would address the “immediate need” of creating an attendance zone for Piney Woods Elementary School in Chapin, which is slated to open this fall. The two new scenarios would reassign students currently attending Chapin Elementary and Lake Murray Elementary School only, as part of a short-term solution. Trustees said they would later consider district-wide redistricting as part of a long-term goal.
The two new scenarios would be available for public viewing January 15 at www.lexrich5.org/redistrictingmap. Public input on the scenarios will be collected through an email address dedicated to redistricting at redistricting@lexrich5.org.

Weekly Update:
Good Evening FIVE IES Family,
2021 is off to a great start in FIVE. This week we had a blast with our "We are One in 2021"initiative. Students were able to show their spirit, and were able to hear speakers/ read a-louds from both our principal, Mrs. Fincannon, and from our district FIVE personnel. FIVE students were able to become pen pals with students who are attending the in-person learning option and were able to express other methods of creating unity across our district. We look forward to another great week ahead as we continue to work hard to connect our FIVE students and teachers back to IES. Our teachers and students are also working hard to both teach and learn at a high level. We are continuously impressed by their efforts. We are also constantly impressed by how hard our parents/ guardians are working to both support our teachers, your students, and our school. We know it isn't easy, but please know we appreciate all of your efforts. As a reminder, please check back through your students grade book to ensure that your student is completing assignments and is attending all class sessions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or your students teacher if this is something we can help you with or if there are any questions we can answer. We also ask that if you have any suggestions or ideas for something that can help to make our FIVE virtual academy more successful that you are more than welcome to reach out to me with your ideas. We know that we are #bettertogether and our cohesion with our parents, community, teachers, and students allows us opportunity for increased success. Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Jason Bebber
