A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
AWARDS PRESENTATION 2019
LIFEncourage and celebrate the success of others
With a new format it was with pride our community shared in the celebrating the recipients of this years key academic and the inaugural Good Shepherd Awards for Years 7 - 11.
It is part of our strategic intent to inspire our Catholic identity by the story of the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd awards signify another step towards this goal. The Good Shepherd Awards honour those students in Years 7 to 11 who are identified as bringing the actions of our yearly theme to LIFE. They are holistic recognition and it was great to see the range of students who were awarded Good Shepherd Awards in 2019.
The awards presentation this year gave our Years 7 to 11 student body and those parents who attended a chance to encourage and celebrate others' success. This is a characteristic of our College we continue to grow and strengthen.
It was also special to present the Parents and Friends award to Denny Piovesan and also recognise our two 20 year service staff in Lynn Vroombrout and Di Pease.

TIDE STUDIOS EXHIBITION 2019
The TIDE Studios Exhibition 2019 showcases the work of students participating in the FLEXed Pathway.
Nine Year 12 students are graduating from FLEXed this year and their energy, verve and vigour will be missed. They have excelled over the last two years in their chosen areas of Glass, Jewellery and Woodwork and the quality and variety of their work belies their age. Many beautiful pieces have been created under the watchful eyes of their teachers, Mrs Lynn Vroombout, Mr Warrick Palmateer and Mr Leandro Martins. Of particular mention are the exquisite jarrah and glass, triptych hall tables.
These students can grasp their futures with both hands, secure in the knowledge that they are talented and capable of producing commercially saleable bespoke furniture pieces as well as one-off works of art.
The TIDE Studios Exhibition 2019 opens on Thursday 28th of November (5-7pm) in the Prendiville Gallery and runs until Friday the 13th of December. Gallery hours are 8-4. Many of the exhibition pieces are for sale and this year’s new Pop-up Gallery next door to the Prendiville Gallery has a great selection of art pieces from previous years that are not only for sale, but are on sale! Just in time for Christmas.
We hope to see you there.

THE POSITIVE FORCE OF CO2
This is the second year that the Technology, Innovation, Design, and Enterprise Department (TIDE) has run the CO2 dragsters project. The project is part of our Year 8 Woodwork programme and has been led by TIDE teacher Mr Mark Cusworth.
CO2 dragsters are miniature racing cars which are propelled by a carbon dioxide cartridge, pierced to start the release of the gas, and which race on a 20 metre long track. Two eyelets linked to a fishing line on the bottom of the car prevent the vehicle from losing control during launch. In a race, a laser scanner records the speed of the car at the end of its run. This year the fastest car travelled the 20 metre long track in 0.92 of a second, which equates to a speed close to 80 Kph.
This project has enabled our students to learn about mechanical principles such as mass, force, acceleration and aerodynamics. The students designed and built their cars from balsa wood which was used because of its light weight, strength and ease of cutting and sanding into shape. Below are some images from CO2 Race Day 2019.

ARRIVEDERCI E BUON VIAGGIO
The WAATI/Intercultura Exchange Programme has become a strong tradition at Prendiville over the past 25 years. This Friday 29 December at 10pm, five Year 11 Prendivillians fly out to Italy to take part in the eight week exchange programme. During this time the students will become part of an Italian family, attend school and celebrate Christmas and New Year. The lucky students are:
- Caleb Mills who will be hosted by a family in Lazio, about an hour north of Rome.
- Rebekah Hopkins is heading to Piacenza, a town in the central north, renowned for its amazing food.
- Maya Callaghan is heading to the heel of the Italian boot, spending her 8 weeks with a family in Puglia.
- Helena Medic is returning to stay with Cristina, the Italian student she hosted this year. She too will be in Puglia.
- Anupa Benoy will be enjoying the Christmas holidays in a very small town in the central north near Mantova.
We wish all 5 students a safe and happy holiday and look forward to welcoming them back next year and hearing how beautifully they speak Italian.
