The individual may return on Day 6, provided they are fever-free with improving symptoms. Upon return, the individual must wear a face covering for Days 6-10 unless they have tested negative on two consecutive antigen tests spaced 48 hours apart. Brookside Students Celebrate ‘Holidays Around the World’
Students at Brookside Elementary School already know how the holidays are celebrated in Yorktown. But what about in South America? Or Europe? Or Africa?
On Thursday, December 1, students explored the “Holidays Around the World” with Beth & Scott, a husband-and-wife musical duo who performed original songs.

♫ You put your robot in, you put your robot out ♫
♫ You put your robot in, and you shake it all about ♫
The December 5 Board of Education meeting included a wonderful presentation by some of our Brookside kindergarten students, who showed off their coding skills by programming their KIBO robots to do the Hokey Pokey!

Mohansic Writing Celebration
On November 23, second-grade students at Mohansic enjoyed a Writing Celebration, where they took turns reading their “small moments” writing pieces. Afterward, the students wrote compliments to each other and displayed them on the Grade 2 Kindness Tree!

Crompond Students Develop Prototypes to Solve Empathy-Based Challenges
ESTEAM is thriving at Crompond School!
An inventive class of fifth-graders used their imagination and empathy to find creative solutions to real-world challenges.
After receiving an “empathy task card,” the students in Ms. Brennan’s class broke off into groups and used littleBits to develop prototypes.

Wrestling Team off to Great Start
On December 14, in the Section 1 Dual Meet Championships, Yorktown defeated Suffern, 40-33, to move on to their first-ever semi-final match, which will take place on December 20.
The Huskers are now 11-0 against public high schools. Congratulations to Coach Kaishian and the team. Way to go!
Yorktown Football Program Donates to Support Connection
Incredible job by our Yorktown High School football program, which raised more than $4,500 at its annual Pink Game on September 30!
Funds raised through t-shirt and ticket sales were donated to Support Connection, Inc., a local charity that provides support services and programs to families affected by breast, ovarian, or gynecological cancer.
Thank you to the parents, players, and coaches who contributed to this wonderful cause.
Coach Ypsilantis said, "Football is all about people coming together for a common goal. That includes players, coaches, families, teachers, administrators, and the community. I could not be more proud of the way everyone came together to raise funds and awareness for Support Connection and its fight against breast cancer."
DA's Office Comes to MESMS
Earlier this month, Mildred E. Strang Middle School was excited to welcome two presenters from the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, who spoke to the students about what it means to be an “upstander” rather than a bystander.
Assistant District Attorney Catalina Blanco Buitrago and Crime Analyst Christina Alston spoke about the role of the DA's office, defined a hate crime, and shared real-world scenarios about how to safely respond to difficult situations.
The engaging and informative presentations were enjoyed by students from all middle school grade levels!
Lemonade Battle Raises Money for Charity
Everyone was a winner in Yorktown High School’s first-ever Lemonade Battle last week, with students in Mr. McKenna’s Sport, Entertainment, and Marketing class raising $500 for charity.
The class was divided into two teams: Silly Squeezes and House of Lemons. Students spent the weeks leading up to the December 2 Lemonade Battle promoting their respective teams on social media and around the high school.
Silly Squeezes had $538 in sales and House of Lemons had $377. After cost, a total of $500 will be donated to four charities: the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, United for the Troops, and Yorktown Food Pantry.
Great job by all!
YHS Senior Performs at NYSSMA All-State Festival
Congratulations to Yorktown High School senior James Madden, who performed at the NYSSMA All-State festival earlier this month! James, who plays tenor saxophone, earned a spot on the All-State Symphonic Band.
The festival took place Dec. 1-4 at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.
We spoke to James about this terrific accomplishment earlier this year.
