New Year Ramblings....................

This is the time for new beginnings and resolutions. Last year I think I had a whole list of things I wanted to do better at! I honestly cannot tell you what they even were without going back and searching through my email. I think this year I will go with one:

Be positive, supportive and intentional AND if I feel like I didn't do so hot, strive to be better the next day!

Life goes fast. Jimmie's 47th birthday is Friday, mine is in May, and I think oh my---that is 3 years away from 50! How did that happen so darn fast? He has had some minor health issues and we are now measuring portions, reading labels, and bought a treadmill for our Christmas present to one another.....and again I think wow......when did this all happen? I went to the doctor early Friday morning before break as I have been having an issue with my body not making platelets. My numbers went up this last time which is good and I don't show any symptoms of anything else so I just need to have a blood draw every month for the next 6 months to track numbers. I wasn't even feeling bad, I just found out by fluke through our bio metric screening. Life is crazy!

But, I am not unique and my issues are small compared to some and I have a great support system which is a blessing. We have families with greater issues that did not stop because we were on winter break. We have families that will come back tomorrow in different situations than when they left us, some better, some not so much. Perhaps some of you have things going on outside of school that have you wondering similar things.

While I know the break was much needed, I have missed you all and I KNOW that our students have as well. As we start this new year remember to reteach expectations and most of all remember to continue your work on your classroom community. Remind our Roadrunners that each and every one of us are there to help support them in their learning, both academic and social. Remember that our students need our structure, consistency and understanding, especially those with mental health issues.

I don't know if you have your own personal resolutions or not but remember as you move forward to choose kindness. No matter the news you have to share or the point you need to make, be sure to think about how you deliver that message. Direct or indirect, our words and actions matter and change lives for good and not so good. Harness that power in a way that makes a positive difference.

Let's start 2019 off on the right foot. I can' think of a better team to get the work in front of us done! Happy New Year!
