SUMMER ACTIVITIES
Summer Reading Opportunity
In an effort to minimize the Summer Reading Slump, we would like to offer an opportunity to check out some of your favorite series. Please fill out the form below if you are interested in checking out books to read over the summer break.
Reading Plus
Students login through CLEVER, find the Reading Plus icon, and start reading. Because Reading Plus allows students to choose from both fiction and/or nonfiction passages based on their interest and places students in passages at their own reading levels, the program strengthens comprehension and vocabulary skills of all levels of readers. All students are familiar with Reading Plus, and it is a great way to maintain and build skills throughout the summer.
Open eBooks
Looking for resources to encourage reading for fun over summer break? Open eBooks contains a rotating catalog of thousands of popular, award-winning eBook titles that students and families can access for FREE!Open eBooks can be used for reading at home or on-the-go through a free app (available on Apple or Android devices) or the web browser version on their computer, Chromebook, or other device with an internet connection. Get started by emailing Mrs. Minezaki (pminezaki@sandi.net) to get the code. Please let me know if you want access to Elementary, Middle School, or All Ages content.

The Wangenheim Clothes Closet is now open. We have a limited selection of tops, bottoms, shoes, and other items available for those in need. There are also some school supplies and hygiene products. Please contact their counselor or Heather Weld (hweld@sandi.net) to make an appointment for you or your student to check out what is available.
If you have gently used clothing items or other items to donate (socks, soap, lotion, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, face soap, lip balm...), please contact Ms. Weld to make drop off arrangements.
DONORS CHOOSE
Many of our staff members have created DonorChoose projects to advocate for our students. Please see current project below. Your support would mean so much. Please share with family and friends.
Ms. Coppola: Clean Classrooms and Healthy Kids Increases Brain Power
Help me give my students brain power by wiping down tables to stay germ free, access to tissues and healthy snacks.
Mrs. Minezaki: Manga Madness
Help me give my students the manga books such as Naruto and One Piece so many love to read.
Mrs. Minezaki: Zone Out to Zone In
Help me give my students a soft comforting sensory pod and weighted stuffies.
Mrs. Slezak: Flexible Seating for 6th Graders
Help me give my students flexible seating. So many kids struggle with ADHD and they need movement options! It's hard to fidget in our hard plastic chairs!
Mrs. Wilson: Comfy Classroom Environment For SPED Students
Help me give my students some flexible sitting in the classroom and I need another bookshelf because I still have more books I am getting and need more shelves to put them.
We would like to showcase and share the activities and achievements of our Wangenheim community.

PRONTO: Students 18 and Under Ride Transit for Free
The Youth Opportunity Pass is a program which allows anyone 18 and under to ride regional transit including buses, trolleys, and trains free of charge. As part of the SANDAG Transit Equity Pilot to make transportation more accessible, the Youth Opportunity Pass is designed to connect young people to more opportunities throughout San Diego.
To be eligible for the Youth Opportunity Pass, riders 18 and under must have a Youth PRONTO app account, or a PRONTO Youth card, which can be used for all MTS buses and trolleys as well as COASTER and SPRINTER trains. Children 5 and under ride free at all times, and don’t need a card or proof of eligibility. To find out more, see the SANDAG website.
East Coast Trip 2024
East Coast trip for 7th grade students for next year. On this trip we take participants to Boston, NYC, and Washington DC. We travel by plane and by luxury bus. We stay in very nice hotels and eat at fantastic restaurants. We see and do everything we can possibly fit into this week. There is one teacher chaperone for every 10-12 students and nighttime security guards hired for each floor of the hotels where there are students. This is an all inclusive trip, so once you pay for it, you don't need money for anything else except souvenirs. This is a trip of a lifetime- don't miss out!
If you know you want to sign up or need more information please contact Ms Chambless jchambless@sandi.net or Ms Coppola lcoppola@sandi.net
