Trauma Informed Care
I've been approached to share with you my knowledge of how to work with some of our students who have experienced or are experiencing trauma. Because of my work in my last building, I'm a bit of an expert in this area and have been a resource to many principals across the country and have even spoken at a few conferences. I believe in the work. I believe we can make a difference and change lives. But, I also want to share a couple of more things:
Trauma Informed Practices.....
- Works with EVERY kid...not just our trauma kids.
- Works especially well with our kiddos on the spectrum.
- Asks us to step away from punishment and step towards consequences.
- Demands us to understand that these kids brains are wired differently. Just because we can't see the brain doesn't mean it isn't different.
First up is a very powerful video where Josh Shipp talks about his life in foster care and the power one man had to change his life. It will bring tears to your eyes. It will hurt your heart. But, it is a great lesson that all kids are one caring adult away from resilience.
