Fall 2019 Newsletter
From the President
Happy Return to School my CEC Friends!!
I hope the beginning of your school year has been as amazing as mine has. It is always exciting to see our returning students, to meet the new students, and lament about the ones that have moved on…
Conferences/Workshops:
With new students come new challenges and Idaho CEC is here to support you in any way that we can. One way we try to support teachers is through our professional development opportunities. This year Idaho CEC is going to shake things up a little. We are not going to have our annual conference in October. We have moved to November; November 14th and 15th to be exact.
We will be returning to the West Ada Training Center Auditorium. We are thankful for the West Ada team working with us again. The conference format will be different this year as well. We have listened to feedback from our members and tried to adjust accordingly. This year we will offer a single session for each time allocation. Though we are still working on finalizing all of our speakers, we have solidified plans for Scott Bellini to be our presenter for the morning session on November 14th. He will be presenting on building social relationships. Dr. Bellini is an Associate Professor in the School Psychology Program and the Director of the Social Skills Research Clinic at the Institute for Child Study. We are very excited to be able to host him at our conference. As more details become available for our other presenters we will share that with you.
The registration window will open soon. We will offer multiple registration options this year.
Thursday only $100
Friday only $100
Thurs & Fri $175
Lunch will be on your own this year (there are so many great places to eat in this area of Meridian; it will be hard to choose!)
Credit options will be available through NNU. Requirements will be determined by how many days of conference you register and attend. More details will follow as we get closer.
In addition to our fall/winter conference, we are already working on our summer workshops. We created this summer opportunity and were pleased with the turn out, feedback of the participants, and quality of our presenters!! I expect that after the new year, there will be many more details to share with you!!
Nominations for the Executive Board:
As you may have read in letters by other board members, this is the time of year when we seek nominations for new board members. If you, or someone you know are interested in the following Executive Board positions, please fill out/ submit the nomination forms by the end of September 2019.
We are seeking nominations for:
Vice President- a four year cycle in which you assist in planning professional development for our state.
Secretary – a two year cycle with responsibilities of keeping and sharing accurate records for the organization
Representative – two year cycle. Major responsibilities include being a liason between National CEC and our own Idaho CEC.
If you would like to nominate someone for any of these positions follow this link: 2019ICECElect
I will be appointing someone to take over as Treasurer for the remainder of Eric’s term. This would be a one year appointment, after which a run for re-election is possible. The major responsibilities of course include keeping all financial records accurate, current, and to help create a working budget. Please email me directly at drckcook@gmail.com if you think you or someone you know might be interested in this position. We will miss Eric terribly, but wish him well in his upcoming endeavors!
National Updates:
The Idaho CEC delegation to the CAN and Legislative Summit did an amazing job advocating for the rights of our most precious children. Look for Kristi’s CAN report for more details!! Kristi keeps us informed about things happening at the national level, both in relation to advocacy and legislative action. She is “in the know” and wants to share!!
The National CEC Conference will be in Portland, OR in February 2020 this year! Practically in our back yard!! I hope many of you are able to participate in this amazing event. It’s a great opportunity to see nationally acclaimed speakers, meet members of the national subdivisions, and create some amazing professional relationships.
Well friends, I think that is all I have for the moment. Be watching for more information about the upcoming conference in November, 2019 and for the Summer Workshops 2020.

Division on Career Development and Transition
Hello! My name is Dr. Andrew Scheef and I am an Assistant Professor of Special Education at the University of Idaho. Before serving in this roll, I was a special education teacher in the Moscow School District.
I am pleased to serve as President of Idaho DCDT. If you are interested in post-school transition and a leadership position, we have several available. Please contact me at ascheef@uidaho.edu
We are lucky to have the national-level DCDT conference in Seattle this year. It will be held on October 25th and 26th (with pre-conference workshops on October 24). Especially if you have not been, do consider attending. The conference has a large amount of transition-related content and much of it is designed for teachers. It would be great to have you there! I will be scheduling an Idaho happy hour and will email Idaho DCDT members with details as we get closer. Information about the conference can be found here: http://community.cec.sped.org/dcdt/dcdt-conferences/dcdt-2017
