Classroom Snapshots
Exploring Careers in Criminal Justice
Manchester Police Department's Chief Darby, Sergeant Bairos and Lieutenant Stanford, met with students in EPSA to discuss careers connected to criminal justice, community service opportunities, and share information on how students can get involved in experiential learning!
Exploring Careers in Education
EPSA students who are interested in learning more about careers in education were invited to take part in panel discussions this week. Students met with college representatives from UCONN, ECSU, Saint Joseph's, MCC, and WNE to learn about the requirements to major in education. Students also had the opportunity to attend a panel discussion with Manchester Public School's Director or Human Resources, Sinthia Sone Moyano, Director of Pupil Personnel Services Sarah Burke, School Counselor and Assistant Principal of HPS, Denise Batista, and Educator, Emily Biggins. EPSA students served as moderators for the panel.

Demonstrate any of the core values and receive a Core Value ticket, drop it in the Main Office or Freshmen Center box, receive an Imagine Coin and maybe you will be the next winner of the MHS Core Value t-shirt!
Jacory McGee-Palmer, Kamili Riera, Tiara Williams and Ta’liek Davis were the winners of last week’s MHS Core Value t-shirt drawing. Tiara (grade 9) and Jacory (STEMD) received their core value tickets for demonstrating Kindness. Jacory received his when he brought a student he saw in the hallway to the nurse’s office for help. Kamili (MCA) and Ta’liek (EPSA) received their Core Value tickets for demonstrating Perseverance. Kamili received her core vale ticket when she worked hard and put all her effort into her work. Ta’liek received his ticket for offering to clean up the classroom for Mr. Plein. Pictured above are Kamili and Jacory.

FanZone Conversation
This Wednesday October 23rd there will be an Open Conversation for any students interested in giving input on the culture and possible improvements to our athletic events FanZone. The conversation will take place in Rm 219 starting at 2:10 pm. All voices are welcome.

The MHS football and soccer teams competed against one another in their annual kick ball game. The competition was fierce but the football team took the victory 8-2.

- Admission counselors from different colleges and universities, as well as military recruiters, schedule regular visits to MHS to meet with students to answer questions and provide information about their programs. If you are interested in meeting the admission counselors/military recruiters please sign up in Naviance, under college visits.
The ASVAB test will be given at MHS on 11/26/19. Please sign up in Naviance, under college visits, or in the Guidance Office, room 117/119.
Do you know students interested in learning more about Senior Military Colleges, Federal Service Academies, or ROTC? If so, please invite them to join us for the 29th Annual New England Service Academy Night, hosted by Norwich University.

Seniors
SAT INFO
Even though seniors took the SAT last year, they should take it a second time because most colleges will use their best scores. Seniors must register directly online at www.collegeboard.com. The cost is $49.50 without essay and $64.50 with essay. Fee waivers are available to students who participate in the free/reduced price lunch program (call the guidance office at 860-647-3533 or see your counselor).
The SAT test dates and deadlines appropriate for seniors are:
Test Date: October 5 November 2 December 7
Regular Deadline: September 6 October 3 November 8
Late Deadline: September 24 October 22 November 26

College Now is a UHart program designed to provide outstanding high school seniors with the opportunity to enroll in 1 college course per semester on a tuition free basis. Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office, room 117/119. Deadline for application is 11/8/19.
Students who are making a difference through volunteering can pick up applications for the Prudential Spirit Of Community Awards in room 119.
