Classroom Spotlight!
Ms. Hines - Grade 2 Class!
Ms. Hines’ second grade class looks forward to their weekly STEAM activities. STEAM is the abbreviation for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math. It’s an integrated approach to learning that encourages students to think more broadly about real-world problems. This past week was so much fun as the class did a STEAM project in honor of Columbus Day. The students were presented with the task of designing their own boat, out of aluminum foil, that would be able to hold a cargo of plastic bears without sinking!
Students had a blast adding bears to their ships and counting to see how much the boat would hold before it started to sink. Students also timed how long it would take for their boats to travel across the water. Finally the class reflected on what they would do differently if they had to build another boat. STEAM is definitely a weekly favorite in Ms. Hines’ classroom!
