Hello Eagleville Families,
This week has been full of activity here at Eagleville. Students have been learning to code, creating holiday crafts, graphing their site words and more! Construction in the building is also moving along and we can now see some of the exciting new spaces we will be enjoying soon. As we move in to our final full week before winter break, I encourage you to remember the importance of routines for our young students and how sticking to them can help children be at their best throughout the day. Anticipation of a change in schedule like the winter break can bring on anxiety for some students. Routines can help minimize this stress for them.

Coding in First Grade!
Today Mrs. Harrity's class with the help of Mr. Dale, our Elementary Technology Integrator, learned to code! Students used tools to help move the bird around the screen.
Gingerbread Art!
In Art class, all of our kinders enjoyed learning about candy shapes and decorating their gingerbread babies with painted candies and icing!
Elf sighting!
Our kinders were on the hunt today for an elf who was causing some mischief and peeking in on all the hard work they were doing. If you look carefully, you may catch a glimpse in the window.

We are getting closer and closer to moving into our new spaces. While not quite finished yet, you can really see how nice our new spaces will be.
Holiday Craft Night
All craft kits that wee ordered and Garland of Kindness kits will be sent home with students on December 17. . Please see the description of the Garland of Kindness project linked below.
Standards Based Grading
The Methacton School District uses a standards-based grading system for students in grades K-4. This system helps us more accurately measure students’ mastery of PA Core Academic Standards in all subjects. The elementary report cards have been revised to reflect the changes to the state standards and Methacton’s curricula. The goal of this approach to reporting is to provide parents, students, and teachers with a detailed picture of what students know and are able to demonstrate. The information provided on the report card encourages dialogue about areas of strength and need, and how our students can continue to grow academically.

As your child’s teacher explained during our Back-to-School night, I CAN statements have been developed to share with you what skills your child is being assessed on and the expectation of mastery for each trimester. The I CAN statements are listed on our MSD Family Center.

Please provide the following information when leaving a message:
o Child's name
o Teacher's name
o Day and date your child will be absent
o Reason for your child's absence
You must call the Attendance line if your child is going to be absent or late and give the reason for the absence.

Student Self-Screening Checklist
Please review the Student Self-Screening Checklist with your student every morning before school. If they have 2 symptoms from the first category OR 1 symptom from the second category please keep them home. Call the Absence line (610) 831- 5325 and report your student absent and symptomatic. Your student should be tested for Covid-19 and results sent to the school nurse. We are requiring a negative test result before your student can return to school. Please call Mrs. Cramer our school nurse for any questions. She can be reached at (610) 489-5000 extension 41206.

Counselor's Corner
Brrrrr! As the weather is changing and temperature is dropping, please remember that your child will still be going outside during recess (unless raining). Be sure to encourage them to wear an appropriate coat. If you need help getting a coat, contact Ms. Shaw (LShaw@methacton.org or 610-489-5000 X41207) to receive one.
We often hear about practicing GRATITUDE during this time of year but science has proved it should be practiced all year. Here are several scientifically proven reasons why: improves relationships, improves physical health, improves mental health, enhances empathy, reduces aggression, improves sleep and improves self-esteem. A simple tip to being more mindful of gratitude is to have a routine to list 3 things you are thankful for each day. Ms. Shaw, School Counselor
