Monday Memo
Riddle Elementary, July 31st
A Note from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! Bright and early Monday morning, August 21, Riddle Elementary will be alive with parents and their children anxious to start the 2017-2018 school year. Whether you will be dropping your child off for the first day of Kindergarten or you are a veteran parent of a school-aged child, the start of a new school year is always a time filled with excitement. The staff and I are excited, too. We are not only getting the building ready, decorating and creating bulletin boards to display student work; we have been engaged in the process of learning together, analyzing and improving our professional practices.
It’s not only the support from a collaborative staff that guarantees students success, but the partnerships between families and schools also have an enormous impact. We would like to invite you to be involved at Riddle and be our partners in learning. There are many ways in which you can participate in your child's education, volunteering to help a teacher, chaperoning a field trip, participate as members of PTA, the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program, and/or the Campus Improvement Team (CIT). All children are more successful when we work as a team to achieve educational goals. Please contact the school or your child's teachers if you are interested in volunteering or becoming a member of the PTA or CIT.
I am beyond excited and honored to serve as the school principal. We look forward to seeing you on the first day of school and throughout the year, as we work together to make our hopes and dreams for students a reality.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cox
Principal
Riddle Elementary

Riddle Elementary has a box available in the foyer for parents to easily leave their proof of residence. Aug. 17 - Kindergarten Meet the Teacher (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
Aug. 18 - Grades 1-5 Meet the Teacher (5:30 pm - 6:30 pm)
Meet the Teacher Night is a great time to do introductions with the teacher and staff and drop off your school supplies. It is also a perfect time to show students how to get to their classroom and around the school. Our wonderful PTA staff, led by Kim Durham, will be on hand so you may sign-up to join PTA, Watch D.O.G.S., and find out about volunteer opportunities. I hope you will consider joining PTA and becoming a member. Your involvement helps to create a “home and school team” working together for the benefit of our students. We will also have a table available to purchase Riddle Friday Spirit T-Shirts.
Spirit Wear Fundraiser
We are excited to offer a new grade level t-shirt to our students for the 17-18 school year incorporating our travel theme, Adventure Awaits. We will offer a different color shirt for each grade level in comfort colors: KN: Watermelon, 1st: Flo Blue, 2nd: Blue Jean, 3rd: Seafoam, 4th: Mystic Blue, 5th: Celadon. A link to purchase your child's t-shirt will be available on the Riddle website in the coming days. Shirts are expected to be available for pick up at Meet the Teacher night!
Parent Volunteers
We know parents are eager to volunteer. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance to us. Precautions are taken both inside and outside the building to provide a safe environment for all students at all times. Please be advised, FISD requires all volunteers to complete a background check annually. If you plan to chaperone a Study Trip with your child, a background check must be on file. In order to expedite the process, we encourage you to register now by visiting http://www.friscoisd.org/about/resources-and-information/background-checks
Class Lists
Dear Parents:
We are excited that the start of school is right around the corner, and we know you and your child(ren) are anxious to learn who their teacher will be this year. If your child will be in Kindergarten, you should expect an email from your child’s teacher on Wednesday afternoon, August 16th. If your child(ren) are going into 1 - 5th grades, you should expect an email from your child's teacher on Thursday, August 17th between the hours of 1:30 pm and 4:00 p.m. The teacher will remind you about bringing supplies on Meet the Teacher Night, and we will all look forward to greeting you and your child at that time. In case the email is not received within the time period noted, you may contact the school office, or the information will be available when you arrive for the Meet the Teacher Night. If changes have been made with your email address since completing the online enrollment process, please contact the campus data clerk to update at stoned@friscoisd.org.
Meet the Teacher Night is scheduled for Kindergarten on August 17th, beginning at 5:30 pm in the cafe. Meet the Teacher Night is scheduled for grades 1 - 5 on August 18th, beginning at 5:30 pm in classrooms. This will be a time to meet the teacher, drop off your supplies, sign up for after school programs, join PTA and place money in your lunch account if you haven’t done so already.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cox
First Day of School
Monday, August 21st, is the first day of school. Please plan to arrive early so students can begin the positive habit of attending school every day on time! We want students to be seated and prepared when the teacher begins instruction. This will help ensure a successful day. Parents may walk students to class on the first day of school, but after the first day please say your goodbyes before entering the building. At Riddle, we want to foster continued growth and independence in our students by starting the school day at 7:45 am to maximize learning time for our students. On the first day, Kindergarten parents are invited to stop by the library for "Kinder Konnect" hosted by Riddle PTA at 8:00 am. This is a great time for Kinder parents to get to know other parents and meet the PTA members. We can't wait!
Pets on School Grounds
No pets are allowed on FISD property during school hours unless authorized by the principal. Those walking students to/from school with pets will not be allowed on FISD property for student safety considerations. This does not apply to service animals. Thank you for your help and support with this!
Carpool Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Please remember to drive slowly, obey all traffic signs, and please refrain from cutting into lines during drop-off and pick-up as this creates unsafe conditions for students and drivers. If at all possible, please have your child exit the car on the side closest to the building. Remember, cell phones are prohibited in school zones. Your child's safety is of the utmost importance to us.
Please Welcome...
I taught Kinder for 3 years at Shawnee Trail and I'm super excited to be part of the Riddle family teaching 2nd grade this year!
I live in The Colony. My boyfriend's name is Ian and our 2 dogs are Hailey and Odie. I spend most of my free time fostering dogs through Dallas Pets Alive, doing some DIY projects around the house, reading, and playing tennis. I love incorporating technology in the classroom. I can't wait to meet your child!

Dear Parents,
I am so excited for my first year of teaching Kindergarten at Riddle! I graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Elementary Education and a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Sic’em! This will be my first year teaching and I can’t wait to start this exciting adventure alongside you and your children.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my sweet puppies, Lexi and Kirby. I also enjoy traveling, skiing, hiking, watching movies, and crafting.
I am thrilled to be your child’s kindergarten teacher and I'm looking forward to a great year! My main goal is to make the classroom a home away from home for all my students, and to encourage every child to become a lifelong learner.

Dear Parents,
This will be my second year at Riddle and I am thrilled to be joining the fourth-grade team. I have taught elementary school for twelve years and moved to Texas last year with my family. Teaching math and science are sure to be an exciting adventure that I can’t wait to jump into.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Kinesiology from the University of Arkansas and then continued on with graduate school at National University with an emphasis on Cross Cultural Education.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Shawn, and four-year-old son, Liam, as well as running, swimming, riding bikes, racing BMX, and pretty much anything active and outdoors.
