Reminder - New Tuition Reimbursement Procedures
Effective January 1, 2018, the Department of Human Resources rolled out the new online Tuition Reimbursement application, accessible to employees through the Human Resources Center via the Web Portal. All course pre-approvals, cohort pre-approvals, and tuition reimbursement requests will need to be completed through this new system.
The new system will provide employees with a more detailed breakdown of the available tuition reimbursement funds for the current fiscal year. In addition, employees will be able to better track the status of their reimbursement request.
Please see the attached instructions for using the new online Tuition Reimbursement system.

Peer Coaching Collaborative
The Maryland State Department of Education is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 Peer Coaching Collaborative Cohort 4. Aligned to our vision, the Peer Coaching Collaborative enables collaboration among teacher leaders to develop sustainable best practices to positively impact student learning.
In this grant funded cohort, a school based team consisting of a teacher leader, an administrator, and other school-based instructional staff put into practice a peer coaching action plan to support their school's needs in:
- Data-based School Improvement Goals and Action Steps
- Using Data to manage Student Learning Objectives
- Supporting non-tenured teachers
- Formative Assessment (FAME)
- Student engagement/reaching diverse learners
- Other
The cohort participates in a two-day training either June 21 and 22 or August 9 and 10 to create their action plan aligned to a continuous school improvement model and peer coaching best practices. Schools are supported with webinars, our interactive Schoology cohort website, and face to face support visits throughout the year.
MSDE Summer Symposia
Join MSDE for our free Summer Professional Learning Symposia. These regional opportunities will include an elementary two-day conference and all-day workshops for secondary educators in the areas of American Government (High School), Health Education (Middle & High School), and US History (Middle & High School). You won't want to miss the keynote speaker, Lynn Davis, Director of the Child Advocacy Group of Frederick County, who will be speaking on the topic of Understanding the Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences: Brain Development and How We Can Help Students.

Formative Assessment for Maryland Educator (FAME)
FAME Cohort 5 registration is now open for the 2018-2019 school year!
Formative Assessment for Maryland Educators (FAME) is a yearlong collaborative professional development process that consists of 5 self-study modules, application activities, communities of practice, and leadership support, all revolving around formative assessment practices. The goals of FAME are to encourage and support teacher reflection, help teachers revise and refine their current practices, and create lasting change in their schools and district.

Other Professional Learning Sessions
Mental Health and Trauma Informed Practices in the School Setting
This workshop will examine the impact of mental health issues within the school setting. An introduction of the ACES study and the impact on health and long term effects will be presented. Additionally, an overview of mental health issues and various diagnoses will be discussed.
Participants will have the opportunity to examine examples and discover effective tools and strategies, and will explore ideas with presented scenarios. Participants will also examine their own self-awareness of mental health and the impact of working with students who have mental health concerns. Tools and strategies to respond to students, as well as building capacity for self-care, will be explored. Ready to use techniques and strategies will be presented and demonstrated.
This workshop is recommended for teachers, administrators, nurses, support staff, and any staff who may come in contact with students. This session will be an interactive practice conducted by a multi-disciplinary team of school professionals. Participants should come prepared with a laptop.

Office 365 and Forms
All CCPS students and staff have access to 1 Terabyte of cloud-based document storage (OneDrive) and Microsoft Office applications online (Office 365). This hands-on workshop will introduce staff to their online account, practice collaborating online and share documents. Staff will also explore the app Forms to create a simple survey or a quiz. This workshop is designed for beginning users of Office 365 and OneDrive.

OneNote
OneNote may be your computer's best kept secret and is a powerful application. This workshop will explore OneNote as a digital notebook tool that allows users to organize content, integrate multiple files into one place and collaborate with other staff and students. Learn more about sections, pages, inserting audio and video, embedding attachments, and tagging.

OneNote Class Notebook is a special type of OneNote that allows for classroom collaboration, teacher notes, and individual student notebooks. More teachers are using this type of notebook with their students. Participants should have attended the OneNote session or be comfortable using OneNote.

Discover Education
This session will provide an overview of Streaming Plus, Science Techbook, and Math Techbook as well as how you can leverage these tools and create a more student-centered learning environment. We will explore assigning content to students, creating digital projects, and various strategies for integrating media into the classroom.
