Conversation Starters
Our 5 Senses
This week we are learning about the 5 senses. On our science table PP loved investigating the “Touch Box". They excitedly reached inside, felt an object, guessed what it was, and then pulled it out. Some of the items included sandpaper, cotton balls, a glue stick and a satin pillow.
A variety of shaker containers were also great learning experiences. PP shook each container, listened, and then guessed what was inside. These included buttons, jingle bells, pom poms, and rocks.
Popcorn! All five senses were in action when PP had snack on Thursday. The children:
Felt the corn kernels
Listened to them pop out of our air popper
Smelled the popcorn popping
Saw them cascading out of the popper
Tasted the delicious popcorn
Fall is Coming
Our next unit will be learning about Fall. As you enjoy the sunny weekend, here are some thought provoking things to do and talk about with your child. What changes do you notice on some trees? What different colors you see? Are all leaves the same shape? What changes do you see at outside markets – what are the changes in our local fruits and vegetables as well? (Where did the yummy tomatoes go? Wonder why there are lots of apples and pumpkins) Do you see any nuts dropping from trees (acorns, walnuts, beech tree nuts)? What are the busy squirrels up to – why?
Five Little Pumpkins
In Music class and in our classroom, PP is learning this delightful finger play. Have your child teach it to you at home too!
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "Oh, my it's getting late"
The second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don't care."
The fourth one said, "Let's run, let's run!"
The fifth one said, "I’m ready for some fun."
Then Woooooo went the wind
And OUT went the lights.
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
