Family Reading Night

Thank you to the families that were able to join us last evening for Family Reading Night. It was great to see so many of you enjoying the event. The children really enjoyed interacting with author Aaron Reynolds. His enthusiasm for writing and reading was contagious! We hope everyone enjoyed the outstanding performance by Lincoln Staff. It was apparent that we rehearsed for days leading up to the show! I would like to thank the PTA for helping sponsor this wonderful event.

5th Grade Parent Night

Edison Middle School will be hosting a 5th Grade Parent Night on Monday, May 2nd at 7:00 PM. Join Principal Rachel Bednar and Guidance Counselor Beth Foster to hear some important information about your child’s transition to middle school. After the presentation, 6th grade teachers will be available to give parents tours of the building and answer questions about 6th grade. If you are unable to be there, the presentation and handouts will be available following the presentation on Edison’s website at under Parents and Students > New Student Info.

Fine Arts Concert

The Lincoln Fine Arts Concert will take place on Thursday, May 5th from 6:30-8:00 PM. Families are welcome to tour the hallways to observe student artwork from 6:30-7:00 PM. The band, orchestra and chorus will perform in the Main Gym at 7:00 PM. Please join us in celebrating the success of the children in the fine arts!

Planning for 2016-2017

A friendly reminder that if you have information that you would like to share about the type of learning environment that works best for your child, send me a written or electronic note by Friday, May 13th. Some examples of this kind of information would be the need for structure, a particular learning style, or any learner characteristics that your child possesses. Please do not specify teachers. Specific requests for teachers will not be honored. As many of you know, we spend a great deal of time matching children to the most appropriate teacher while balancing classes in many ways. The final placement decisions are made by me. These are the same guidelines that have been in place for years and I plan to continue this process in the best interest of children. I thank you in advance for observing the above guidelines.

Thank you to our Crosswalk Volunteers!

A huge thank you to the volunteers who helped as crossing guards at the Dawes crosswalk this entire school year. These mothers made sure that children arrived safely at school through all kinds of weather! Thank you to: Erin Allen, Stefanie Berndt, Emily Bullen, Shona Hay, Amy Janowiak, Amanda Jethani, Kristy Jochum, Nikki Lapinne, Angie Lindsay, Colleen Malone, Andrea Martin, Leslie Moore, Judi O'Connell, Chris Preede, Sue Shorney and Wei Shissler, as well as subs Kathy Amen and Natalie Eichenberger. Your time and commitment are truly appreciated. Come August, the PTA will be recruiting volunteers for next school year.

Safety Update

I would like to remind everyone that children should not arrive to school before 9:00 AM. Those who arrive before 9:00 AM will be asked to stay off school grounds until the 9:00 AM school bell rings. We simply do not have supervision to ensure the safety of children on school grounds. I would like to thank you for adhering to this safety precaution.

Event Parking Reminder

Parking can be difficult on days that we host events at the building. If you find yourself parking on one of our neighboring streets, please be sure that all four tires of your vehicle are on the pavement. We would like to be respectful of our neighbors landscaping that surrounds our community.

2nd Annual Shoes for Shelters

Lincoln Elementary School, in conjunction with Just Giants Rescue, will be holding a shoe drive from Monday, April 25 through Friday, May 27. The shoes collected will help people in need in the U.S., as well as in developing countries around the World. Based on the number of shoes collected, a donation will also be made to help local rescue dogs.

Any type of footwear can be donated. Please tie laces together in a bow to keep pairs together. For non-lacing shoes, if possible, please wrap a rubber band around each matching pair. There will be a box in the main entryway hall, near room 1202, for collecting the shoes. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sternes.
