Panther Post
March 6th - 11th
Hello Lopez Families,
Our lost and found bins are overflowing again. On Wednesday, we are going to put the bins on the stage during lunch in hopes of students reclaiming any lost items. After that, our PTA is going to donate the unclaimed items to the NEISD Clothes Closet. Please tell your kids if they lose anything, the bins are always downstairs inside the doors from the concourse.
Track and field season has started and our first meet was last week. The boys did well, winning several events. The girls did well too, with the 8th graders winning the overall meet.
Our choir did outstanding at the UIL Choir Contest earning Superior Ratings (the highest rating possible) for all three choir groups in Concert and Sight-Reading. This amazing achievement earned them the Sweepstakes Award! They performed at Reagan High School and I was lucky to be there to hear them.
Natania Olsen and Kate Olson competed at the Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair on February 24, 2017 at St. Mary's University. Natania won 5th place for her project, “Extra-Solar Planets: What's Out There”. Kate won a Director's Award for her project, “Determining the Most Visible Colors for Cross Guard Vests”. Congratulations Panthers!
Our kids are the best!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Service Hours
Lopez families,
Lopez Panthers should be tracking their service hours. The hours should be tracked in their Leader in Me binder on the service hour log page. They may also track their hours for the PVSA awards website. This consists of time they spend in any type of volunteer role - at school or on their own. This will help them reach their personal goal and will help Lopez complete their school-wide important goal of 10,000 service hours this year.
Instructions on how to enter your service hours can be found at: https://snapguide.com/guides/log-presidents-volunteer-service-award-hours/.
The site for actually putting in your hours is: http://presidentialserviceawards.gov.
Send us a picture of your child in his/her service role and we will display it on a celebrations wall! mvolz@neisd.net or ftobac@neisd.net
We can't wait to see the great ways our Lopez Panthers Serve!
Local Fundraisers
Lopez PALS raise money for Wounded Warriors.
For the third year now, PALS decided that the proceeds from the annual carnations sales would go to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. PALS selected Wounded Warriors to donate the money to because of our schools namesake. We felt that by giving back to those that give each of us freedom would be the only way to go. The Lopez PALS started with a goal to sell 600 carnations for Valentine’s . Steps we took to achieve our goal: We advertised to peers during lunch periods, informed teachers of the sales, kept close track of our money, and broadcasted information over the announcements. In order to accomplish this feat we synergized as a leadership group. We exceeded our goal and raised 476.00 for the wounded warrior program.
Overall, the Valentine's Day fundraiser was a great success!
