A Look at Our Week
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I hope that you have a lovely end of the week with your families and friends. If any of you are travelling anywhere interesting, send me some photos and your child can do a mini presentation describing what they saw on their travels. My email address is lindsay.fox@acsgmail.net.
Old shoe, new shoe, red shoe, blue shoe.... We will be continuing to trace around and measure shoes this week, in Math Workshop. This week we are working on counting 15 objects, and recording how many in our Counting Jar booklets.
I will continue testing your children on their sight words, and returning a sheet of paper with words circled that still need reinforcement. This week's words are not, came, from and again. Please help your child learn these words at home; Sight words are crucial to your child's progression in reading. This week your child will be working on a Thanksgiving booklet during writing time, and they'll be bringing that home to read with you on Tuesday. I will also be sending home all of their writing from the past month, please celebrate your child's progress as a writer by listening as they share their stories with you.
Last week in Fundations, we learned two new consonants: p-pan-/p/ and j-jug-/j/. It has been wonderful in Guided Reading discovering how well the children are forming their letters now. They have been so excited to begin their formal reading instruction, and have responded enthusiastically to this daily, small group lesson.
You may hear your child singing a Native American song this week at home. I know that I can't get the song out of my head, so I'm expecting a similar effect tomorrow when I teach it to the class!
