Midway Mustang Memo
August 2022
Dear Midway Families,
We have had a successful opening for the 2022-2023 school year. It has been amazing to welcome all of our Mustangs back. It's going to be a great school year! We want you to know your child's safety is our top priority and we thank you for entrusting your precious children in our care. We are here to partner with you to ensure their success. The carline is flowing very smooth this year. Our bus arrival and dismissal times are improving each day. Thank you for your continued support and patience.
We want to extend a big thank you to our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) for helping to celebrate our teachers as they returned in July for pre-planning. In addition, we want to thank PTO for their "Bloomification Project" and updates to our basketball court on the playground. We also want to thank PTO for sponsoring our Ice Cream Social and taking part in our Kindergarten Round up & Open House Days. If you have not joined Midway’s PTO, please consider doing so as they provide support and improvements for our entire Midway Elementary community. For more information about the PTO, please see their website linked here. PTO will be hosting an in-person informational meeting on Wednesday, August 17th at 6:00 p.m. Please join us to learn more about the purpose of PTO, how they support the school and enhance your child’s experience at Midway, ways you can get involved, and purchase Midway Spirit wear.
As we are working on establishing routines and procedures, we want to share a few bits of information regarding the upcoming school year.
Transportation Changes:
When you need to make a change to your child's transportation for the day, we ask that you complete the Transportation Change form linked here. This form is also posted on the Midway webpage in the Quick Links section. The form closes each at 1:00 pm so teachers can update their Transportation Checklist. The form is reopened each evening at 4:00pm for you to make needed updates. For the safety of your child, we no longer accept handwritten notes, emails, and phones calls. Thank you for your understanding as we ensure the safety of all students.
Free-reduced lunch:
This year, the USDA is NOT providing free meals for students. We have MANY students selecting meals at school but with NO payment plan established. TODAY, please access mypaymentsplus.com to pre-pay for to your child’s meals or apply for free/reduced meals at forsyth.k12.ga.us/freereduced. Thank you!
Student Absences:
When you need to report a student absence, please complete our Attendance Notes link. It is located on our Midway Website, on the right side under Quick Links.
Lunch Visitors:
We are so excited to welcome lunch visitors into the building after Labor Day in September. Creating a solid routine for our students is very important and research shows it takes up to six weeks to ensure those habits are formed from the first day of school. We will be sharing more information about lunch visitors soon...stay tuned.
Calling all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Scientists!
This year, Midway will be starting a Science Olympiad team. Science Olympiad is a group of students that work collaboratively to creatively solve problems during the year and at the Science Olympiad events. We will be sharing more information as well as demonstrating an experiment at both Curriculum Nights for 4th/5th grades and 2nd/3rd grades. Stop by the Midway Cafe' at 5:00 to test your scientific ability and learn more about our awesome new team opportunities! Stay tuned for the application which will be shared soon. Space will be VERY limited. We are excited to offer this new adventure for our students.
Please let us know if you need anything at all.

Leader in Me
Leader in Me, based on the work of Stephen M. R. Covey, unites student, staff, and families around a common goal to prepare students with college, career, and life readiness skills that are necessary to thrive in today's ever-changing, fast-paced environment, like. Critical Thinking; Creativity; Self Discipline; Vision; Initiative; Communication; Relationship Building; Goal Achievement; Public Speaking. Ask your student what they are learning about the 7 Habits in order to become strong in mind, body, and spirit.
News from Nurse Berry
It is so nice seeing all the smiling faces in the hallways again. I wanted to go over a few reminders from the clinic. Please visit my school web page. It has lots of useful information in regard to illness.
Please make sure your phone number is up to date in the parent portal in case I need to call home for illness or emergencies.
If your student has a health condition that requires assistance during the school day, please let your teacher and me know. Health conditions such as Asthma, food/insect allergies or any other health concerns that requires medications, I will need a health condition form, for this current school year, completed by your physician and any medication that needs to be kept in the clinic. For County Health forms you can find them on my school web page, or you can use this link to access the forms
https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=707
Please reach out if you need any assistance or questions regarding the forms.
We know it is difficult to make those early morning decisions.
The main reasons for keeping your child at home are as follows:
- If he/she is too sick to be comfortable at school
- If he/she will spread a contagious illness/disease to another child
A child should stay at home:
- If there has been any fever in the last 24 hours.
- If vomiting and /or diarrhea has occurred within the last 24 hours
- If a child has a frequent, persistent cough.
- If a child has persistent pain (stomach, ear, etc.)
- If an antibiotic was prescribed, the student must be on the antibiotic for 24 hours or longer if directed by a physician before returning to school.
- If COVID, influenza, staph infection, communicable childhood disease , illness or organism has been medically diagnosed by a physician, please alert your student's teacher.
Reminder: A student must be fever, vomit, diarrhea free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of medication before returning to school. Please do not send your child to school if they have vomited that morning. If your child tends to get motion sickness on the bus, please discuss with the bus driver to have your child sit in the front of the bus. Also, there are motion sickness bands that can be a big help.
Please remember things are always changing with the guidance with COVID 19. Please always reach out to me with all questions and concerns.
