Snow Day Make Up Information

The first inclement weather day of the school year, Monday, December 16, will be made up on the district's Designated Inclement Weather Make-up Day, which is Friday, April 17.

If a second inclement weather day is needed, the state will "forgive" the second day, meaning it would not need to be made up.

REMIND Text Messages - NEW LINKS

The Remind app that we previously used to blast out Deerfield Reminders changed their policy this summer to limit the number of subscribers in any one group. To work around these restrictions, we have created four Deerfield Parent groups. If you would like to receive text message reminders from Deerfield, please subscribe by following the directions below:

If your student's last name begins with A-D, Text the message @deera-d to the number 81010.

If your student's last name begins with E-K, Text the message @deere-k to the number 81010.

If your student's last name begins with L-Q, Text the message @deerl-q to the number 81010.

If your student's last name begins with R-Z, Text the message @deerr-z to the number 81010.

You will be prompted to reply with your full name. Please text back with your first and last name and your student's name in parenthesis i.e. Joni Appleman (Jacob)

If you have trouble with 81010, try texting your code above to (785) 371-2669.

Deerfield Behavior Expectations

As we begin the new year, please review the Deerfield Behavior Matrix with your child/ren. Behavior Expectations for the school day extend to Boys and Girls Club. We will be reteaching these expectations over the next few weeks. A hard copy of this matrix will be sent home with your child. Please consider posting this at home as a reminder for your child.

Safe Routes

Lawrence Public Schools, in partnership with the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department and the Lawrence-Douglas County MPO is working on an updated citywide Safe Routes to school plan for Lawrence. Parent input is needed to weigh in on the Safe Routes to School plan and provide feedback that helps us prioritize programs that will ultimately improve student travel to school. We need parent input even if their kids do not currently walk or bike to school. This feedback will inform the policies for the City of Lawrence and help shape the vision of our city and the future of the Lawrence Safe Routes to School Program. It is vitally important for parents to provide their input. Visit this link to fill out the online worksheet packet. Your school’s feedback is due by January 22, 2020. We have paper copies available at the office.

Heath News - Just in Time for Flu Season

Flu season is in full swing. The CDC is reporting that 30 states—especially southern states like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina—are already seeing flu activity. A preliminary estimates report states that there have already been 1.7 million to 2.5 million flu illnesses nationwide between October and November. Thankfully, there are measures everyone can take to keep the virus at bay. Click HERE for more prevention information.

REPEATS and REMINDERS

Building Reminders

Building Secure 8:00 am-6:00 pm

Deerfield entrances are locked at 8:00 (or very soon after). We must insist that all parents exit the building immediately when class begins at 8:00 am.

As a reminder, parents are welcome to walk students to class only if arriving before 8:00 am. Once the building is secured at 8:00, students will need to be dropped off at the office to get a tardy slip before walking to class. Parents will not be allowed to walk students to class after the 8:00 bell rings.

Those who have made arrangements with the teacher to visit or volunteer need to sign-in at the office and wear a Deerfield Visitor badge.
