PLTW Science of Technology Course at WJHS
One of the new features in the corporation is the Design and Innovation Studio that is located in the junior high. The Sci-Tech course is currently learning about the Sphero robots. The Sphero robots utilize block coding and the students have been working on their problem solving skills completing a program that moves their Sphero from a start line through either a tunnel or over a ramp to a finish line. The task involves the student groups to work together and problem solve to make their program a success.
The learning experience has been super engaging and enjoyed by both the teacher and the students!
WHS Earns Early College Endorsement
Sandy Hillman, Director of Early College from the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning at the University of Indianapolis, presented to the school board the endorsement of the College & Career Academy at Washington HS as highly effective in implementing the 8 Core Principles of Early College, and has earned CELL Certification.
WHS has documented evidence of quality programs that help high school students graduate high school and accelerate into post-secondary education, whether at a 4-year institution or a career/technical program. Sandy & Janet presented WHS with a banner to proudly display at WHS.
Kids at Hope Master Institute
A team from Washington Community Schools completed the Hope Masters Institute!
The Hope Masters Institute is led by Kids at Hope founder Rick Miller. The institute was attended by over 150 educators, social workers, and law enforcement officials from all over the United States. School Closing & Delays
As we enter autumn the possibility of inclement weather increases. Please see our website for more information to prepare for the possibility of a school closing or delay.
School officials make decisions about school closing based on weather information, directly checking weather and road conditions, communication with street departments, police agencies, and neighboring school districts.
A School Closing or Delay will be announced as early as possible, but it is not always feasible to predict if a closing or delay is needed the night before. Notifications will be sent via school messenger, local media, WCS website, push notifications to our mobile app, and social media pages.
