Our Beliefs

Students

We believe all students are capable of learning, especially when provided authentic and engaging opportunities.

Teachers

We believe teachers facilitate student learning by creating positive and effective classroom communities and by collaborating with colleagues and parents.

Parents

We believe parental involvement is a significant component to students' academic performance and success.

Community

We believe developing partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and the community is important to our school's success.

Learning

We believe 21st Century learning is best achieved in a nurturing, authentic, and collaborative environment.

Administration

We believe administrators' support is necessary to empower faculty, staff, parents, and the community to prepare 21st Century learners.

"The question is not how to survive, but how to thrive with passion, compassion, humor and style." - Maya Angelou

Safety Drills

Faculty and staff, please make sure you are familiar with the code colors and procedures for emergencies. All emergency drills will not be announced, because in the case of a real emergency, there won’t be time to give a pre-warning. We must be ready at all times. For the most part, the Code Black (tornado warning) drill went well but there are some areas needing improvement. Please make sure you discuss all safety procedures with students and practice as appropriately with your students.

Dr. Shirley Watson

While Dr. Scotland is away from school, Dr. Shirley Watson will join us once again. She filled in for Mrs. Grant last year and did an amazing job supporting our students, faculty and staff. We are glad she will be with us again!

Technology Tidbit

It is important to have your students completely shut down their computer at the end of each day. Also, be sure that your students remember to close their computers if they walk away from it. That instantly closes their login and ensures that no one else can change anything without the password. There was an incident this week where things appeared to have been erased from a student's Chromebook.

Thank for your attention to this.

Farewell and Best Wishes

We would like to send best wishes to Mrs. Tarsha Hubbard. Today was her last day at Killian. Mrs. Hubbard resigned due to personal reasons. We have enjoyed having her at Killian and wish her well in all future endeavors. Remember, once a Killian Leading Lion, always a Killian Leading Lion!

Celebrations!

Our Mrs. McFadden was named HP Account Sales Representative of the Month for Dec. 2016 for her technology job she does in the evenings and on the weekends! Way to go with the T in STEAM Mrs. McFadden!

After School Detention

After a student has received three 7 Habits reflection sheets, they are required to stay after school for detention. Ms. Gore and Mrs. Murray host the detentions from 3:15-4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Here is the procedure for these sessions:

  1. Notify your grade level administrator when you have a student who needs the detention session. Please share all 3 of the reflection sheets when you talk to your grade level administrator about it.

  2. Notify the parent that the administrator will be calling to schedule the detention.

  3. Your grade level administrator will schedule it and will notify you and the parents. The parents will be asked to come to school at 4:00 pm to pick up their student. This is a good opportunity for the parent to have a face-to-face meeting with admin regarding the negative behavior. Teachers are VERY welcome but not required to participate in these meetings.

  4. On the day of the detention, keep the student in your classroom until all buses have been dismissed. After the last bus, please bring your student to the front office and ensure that they are being supervised in the office area outside of Ms. Gore and Mrs. Murray’s offices.

Morning Meeting

Here is a way to use GO NOODLE during your morning meetings:

Lighthouse Team Updates:

Thank you for sharing names with Mrs. Murray for the board across from the robotics lab. At the end of February, we will see which grade level has the most students on the board.

Multicultural Day!

Kudos to Dr. Gilbert for the outstanding Multicultural Museum that took place today! The variety of artifacts were amazing and the students seemed to enjoy learning about different cultures. Thank you for all you do to provide our students with meaningful experiences! You are appreciated!
