Hawk Highlights Parent Edition
Because Knowledge is Power
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” — Malcolm X
Greetings Garden City Elementary Families. We are excited about teaching and learning at "The Garden." As we continue to navigate through these very different times, we encourage you to stay the course. Your support in ensuring students continue to actively engage in virtual learning is a very important piece to having a successful school year. Although this school year is much different than what we typically experience, our commitment at "The Garden" remains the same; providing quality educational services to all students. We recognize and appreciate your role as a parent in making sure our children continue learning. Your commitment to education has not gone unnoticed. We see you and we appreciate you. We are in this together.

2nd Semester Return to Learn
We are now in the 2nd Semester of the 2020-2021school year. On February 22nd, we begin welcoming students on campus for the 2nd Semester Return to Learn. Students participating in hybrid learning follow the SCCPSS 2 day/3 day hybrid instructional model. Students participating in the hybrid model report on campus for in-person learning on assigned in-person days and participate in virtual learning on assigned virtual learning days. In-person and virtual learning days are based on the student's assigned cohort. At registration, students were assigned to cohort A or cohort B. Students will remain in their assigned cohort for the remainder of the school year.
Now that we are in the 2nd Semester Return to Learn, Wednesday is an instructional day for all students. Virtual students will now log in online with their teacher 5 days a week. Students participating in hybrid learning will participate in in-person learning or virtual learning based on their assigned cohort. All students participate in synchronous learning each school day.
SCCPSS Cohort Calendars
All in-person students will receive a GCES calendar identifying in-person and virtual days for their assigned cohort.
Thank you Parents

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds - especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing, or touching your face. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and wash your hands after touching your face.
