Isaac Is Born

What makes you laugh?

God had called seventy-five-year-old Abram to leave his home and his country and go to a new land. God also changed Abram’s name to Abraham, “father of many nations” and promised that He would make him into a great nation and that in him all families of the earth would be blessed. God promised that Abraham’s descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, as many as the dust of the earth, if it could be counted. God promised that Abraham’s offspring would possess the land of Canaan. He promised that kings would come from Abraham and that God would be their God forever. But Abraham had no children by his wife, Sarah. Twenty-five years passed, but still Abraham and Sarah were childless. Once again God gave His promises to Abraham and Sarah. Is it any wonder they laughed?

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, You keep Your promises and give us joy. Thank You, God! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Isaac, story of birth

Talk about it

  • What promise to Abraham and Sarah did God keep?
  • Who was born from their family many years later?
  • Why did Sarah laugh at first? Why did she laugh later?
  • What promises has God kept to you?

God gave Abraham and Sarah a baby boy, Isaac--even though Sarah was 90 and Abraham was 100 years old! Nothing is impossible for God!

Many, many years later, Jesus our Savior came from the family of Abraham. God blessed all families on the earth through Jesus.

Sarah laughed because she couldn’t believe she could have a baby at ninety years old. Later, she laughed out of joy because God did give her a baby in her old age.

God has promised to love and care for us. How has he done that in your life? The greatest, most important promise God has kept is to to send Jesus to pay for the sins of the world and give us eternal life.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
