Principal's Message
In 2015, Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, or Police Appreciation Day, was founded in an effort to highlight the support and appreciation the general public holds for law enforcement officers. The driving force behind its creation was the recent negative attention many officers have faced in the media. By founding the national day of recognition, the founders hope to draw attention to the lengths police officers go to in order to serve the public and make a difference while doing the job they love. They also hope to generate awareness of the dangers they face every day on the job while protecting the communities in which they live and work. January 9th marks this day of appreciation.
Calhoun High School is very fortunate to have the service of Sergeant Mark Waycaster of the Calhoun Police Department on our campus. The partnership that CCS has with the City of Calhoun Police Department is critical to the operation of our schools. We would ask our staff and students to take a moment to share their appreciation and thanks for Sergeant Waycaster when they see him around school this week.
Thank you Sergeant Waycaster...you are appreciated!
COVID Contact Tracing Update
In light of recent changes to the CDC guidelines, we have revised our system COVID procedures. We will continue to contact trace for any positive students identified. However, we will no longer require students identified as a school close contact to quarantine. Students will be informed of their exposure and be required to mask up for the 10 days following their exposure, but they will be allowed to remain at school. Parents will have the option of quarantining at home but only for the 5 days recommended by the CDC.
- Student COVID Positive: Minimum 5 day quarantine at home, required mask for an additional 5 days at school
- COVID Positive in the home: 5 day quarantine at home, required mask for an additional 5 days at school
- COVID Close Contact at School: Optional 5 day quarantine at home, required mask for 10 days following exposure at school
- COVID Close Contact outside of school: Parent note allowed for up to 5 days
- COVID Testing of student or household member: All members quarantine until test results received
- Vaccinated Students: Vaccination is considered current for 6 months, a booster is recommended after that to maintain vaccination status

Senior Scholarship Information
First, college in any setting is expensive! Colleges have a wide range of scholarships and we do not have a magic listing or go-to guide for all of the scholarships that are available. First, start with the college scholarship websites. Second, the internet is your friend so use it wisely. Lastly, utilize our scholarship links that are posted under the Students Tab (Scholarship Opportunities) on the Calhoun High School website. We have linked it here! Mrs. Arnold will continue to update this throughout the school year.
If you are using Mrs. Arnold's email address for college applications, PLEASE make sure you are using her arnoldk@calhounschools.org email address! This is the email address that is linked to Common App, UGA Portal, Coalition, Slate, etc. If a student has used her CCS Jackets email on their applications, please let her know. You will need to log into your application and change the email to arnoldk@calhounschools.org in order for us to receive notifications and complete.
