Gates Notes & News
January 30, 2023
Can you believe that we are officially halfway through the school year? Students and staff have been working very hard on mid-year assessments. While there are several mid-year assessments that are given, from curriculum to nationally normed, these help give us a very good picture of the progress that is being made. Teachers have been meeting to discuss student progress and make plans to continue to move the kids forward. You will be receiving your child's report card this week by email. If you do not receive your child's report card by Tuesday, please contact his/her teacher.
Below in the newsletter you will see a section on ParentGuidance.org. I highly encourage families to check out this information. As a parent, it is one of the most valuable sites I have visited and used.
Thank you for all the support you give your child at home!
Most Sincerely,
Natalie Miller
Proud Gates Principal

Cardinal Code on the Bus
- Always stay seated in your assigned seat with your backpack on your lap.
- Use a quiet voice to talk to friends near you.
- Always scan on and off using your Zonar tag. All students with missing Zonar tags will get one in the coming few weeks.
- Always be respectful of your bus driver, their goal is to get you home safely and you can help by following the Cardinal Code!

Report Cards Will be Emailed This Week
Report Cards were emailed to parents by their child’s teacher last week. Please be sure to take a moment to review your child's academic progress. Share your enthusiasm, encouragement and hopes for their bright future with your child. If you have questions, comments or concerns, reach out to your child's teacher either by phone or email.
Remember that this is a snapshot of your child’s learning progress and is subject to change based on your student’s understanding of the material covered.
Parents who have not yet provided the district with an email address are encouraged to contact the Gates office at 810-591-5001 or send an email to: kbruns@davisonschools.org to have your email included in your student’s record.
Be Winter Ready!
After School Destination Changes
It is important that your child know how they are going to get home each day. While we understand that occasionally situations arise that may cause you to request a change in your student’s usual means of transportation, you must call the office no later than 3:15 pm and talk directly to one of the office staff to ensure that the change is made.
However, if a change is known prior to the start of school, please let your child’s teacher know in writing—either by email or sending in a note. In this case, it is not necessary to call the office as the teacher will redirect your child at the end of the day.
Additionally, all requested bussing changes must go through the DCS Transportation Department and a new Transportation form must be completed and is included below.
Medication at School
If your child has a medical issue that we’re not aware of, please notify us right away! Any student who may need to take medication at school during the day must have an “Authorization to Administer Medication” form on file that has been completed by a doctor and signed by the parent prior to delivering the medication to the school office. All medication MUST be brought into school by an adult, never transported by students.
Thank you for helping to keep our students safe & healthy.
