WEEK ENDING IN 10/08/2021
Dear OSES Families,
This week marks the end of the first marking period of the 2021-2022 school year. Report cards went out this Friday, October 8th. Please visit OSES connect to view your child's grade(s). Ms. Greene sent an email yesterday with directions.
Our first Spirit week was a huge success. We hope this week allowed everyone to show their school spirit and that everyone enjoyed dressing up and participating in all the festivities on campus. You can find photos from spirit week under the grades section in this newsletter.
Picture re take day is coming up on October 19th. Any student who did not get their picture taken on Picture day can get it taken on the 19th.
Red Ribbon week is also coming up in a few weeks. Keep a look out for dress up days in the upcoming newsletters.
We hope everyone has a safe and fun 3 day weekend!

KINDERGARTEN
This week we celebrated the Spirit of our school and took a wonderful journey of learning about careers, how to respect our school and most importantly enjoyed having fun dressing down, having fun with each other and developing character education!
We also explored new math games for addition and shapes!
Finally we loved all of our science and fun social studies activities to provide hands-on learning opportunities.
If you have not paid for your child's t-shirt please let your child's teacher know!!!:) Hugs from the Littles of OSES
FIRST
This week we learned about ways to learn about History and Christopher Columbus. We had fun exploring motion with fun STEM activities during Science.
Information will be going home with your child about our fun October Pumpkin Project that will be due at the end of the month!
SECOND
In Ms. Nickerson’s Class, we are learning about friction in science. Student’s conducted an experiment: Which material would make the best “ice skates”?
Ms. Volden’s class also is excited to start our Math project “Run a Candy Store” using our place value skills we learned! Each day we will have a task to complete in running our stores!
Ms. Waugh’s class had so much fun on Engineering Wednesdays with an Engineering is Elementary lesson. Students studied how closed and open circuits work by figuring out how to make a light bulb work. They are also learning about Thomas Edison’s invention of the electric light bulb this week in reading!
THIRD
FOURTH
Mrs. Ferguson's class finalized their engineering projects using structures of Earth and will return to chemical and physical changes next week in science!
FIFTH
This week in Ms. Brown's class, students used an anchor chart to determine the meaning of unknown words and phrases, including multiple-meaning words. Students learned about the character of the month: Kindness, and completed work on how to be kind. Students worked on a Hispanic Heritage Month project on a person of their choosing. Students are making progress in informative writing by learning how to plan their essays.
SIXTH
Physical Education:
The students learned the changes in food portion sizes, and now we need to be physically active more than ever or be more conscious of how much we eat.
Since physical activities are one of the healthy ways to deal with stress, manage optimal body weight, and build strong bones and muscles, the students engaged in various physical activities!
SPECIALS
This week in Character Education, we have begun talking about our October character trait of the month, kindness. We discussed what it means to be kind, how to be a "bucket filler," and the difference between telling and tattling. For the older students, we also talked about what it means to be bullied and how to "pumpkin spice" it up by being self-confident, positive, inclusive, compassionate, and encouraging.
In STEM Lab, we measured and compared temperatures and mass. Next week, we will begin exploring space and the earth around us.
